Swapping out the scanner unit on my okidata es3640 mfp and getting an error message that scanner lock is locked. Checked and it is not locked. Unit was shipped to me with the scanner lock unlocked so that may be a problem but I just want to get it to recognize that it is now unlocked.
SOURCE: cannot remove "scanner locked"
What you need to do is look in the area where your copied pages come out, Between the paper tray and the bottom of the scanner.
On the underside of the scanner you will see a green latch, It is the only green item on the underside of the scanner. About 2 inches long and a half inch wide.
Turn off the machine, push that lever in, then, and it may resist some, pull it toward yourself until it snaps fully to the front of the machine.
Normally what happens is people hit it with the top of their hand removine their copies.
You can take a piece of electrical tape or duct tape and put over it to secure it in place.
You can also, remove the seal glass, the piece of glass about 1 inch wide on the left side of the scanner. It just has 2 phillips screws in it. This with the machine unplugged, and pop that green latch out and flip it around. There is a tab that will keep it from moving. That latch is for shipping purposes.

also found that if you look down on to the scanner glass below it there is a blue plastic indicator showing if the scanner is locked or not. The adjuster for this is in the paper-out area so can get knocked by somebody grabbing the paper.
Just pull the blue switch towards you so the indicator is on the unlocked padlock, then turn the unit off and back on and that might fix it.

SOURCE: display says Scanner locked
There is a green switch located under the scanner area of the machine. You will also see a diagram of locked and unlocked padlocks. Just slide the switch to the unlocked position. Hope this helps.

Look where your copies come out and there is a switch on the top underside, (green on the M20i) and make sure it is in the unlocked position. You may need to wiggle the switch to fully unlock it. Mine was locked but I was able to re-engage flipping the switch several times.
