Question about HP DeskJet 5650 InkJet Printer

HP 5650 deskjet printer

The yellow light between the X and the arrow is blinking and the printer won't print.  I have within the last few days changed both colour and black cartridges so cannot beliueve that they need changing.  Have switched off electricity to printer and re-booted computer but did not make any difference.  There is no paper jam and neither the printer nor the computer are giving me error mesages.  The printer printed 1 sheet (normally and without marks indicating that the ink was running low) then refused to do anything else.  Am afraid cannot find the printer manual so do not know what the problem is or how to solve it.  Can you help?

Many thanks,

Kate Gordon

My low ink light just stays on. I've disconnected the power supply cord, and then rebooted the computer, but still same result. Power button will not turn on either.

The same problem - yellow light is on and pressing power button does not do anything. This started happening after I turned off the printer while it was printing. Now, the printer is "hung" and does not respond to any buttons, even after removing the power cord. Is the printer "gone" forever and it's time to buy a new printer?

Yellow arrow light just keeps flashing. I have turned it off then on again, I have even unplugged it and plugged it back in. I also rebooted the computer, the printer will not print at all. Also, my cartriges keep going back and forth and stopping in the center.

My yellow light beside the X keeps blinking. I have replaced the toner cartridge, but this doesn't help. Sometimes I am able to get one page to print, but then the toner light starts blinking again and will not print. HELP!

Did you or one of your users have a paper jam recently and force the jam out of the printer? Because we've had a few 5650's do this after a jam. About 66% of the time this fixed it...

  • Removing the ink, unplugging the printer, moving the print head to the half way point, and starting the printer. If it resets at that point and lets you put the ink in, your usually gold. If it just stops and blinks again your not.

That said, I'm actually taking one apart that wasn't fixable this way right now. I think the problem may be something related to not recognizing if the cover is up/down, but still can't see why it happens or how that it is effected by the jam.

Is your printer lid all the way down? I had this issue frequently, and I found that the cover wasn't closing all the way, after I changed the ink cartridge. Once I got it closing properly, it worked fine

I had the same problem upon replacing the black ink cartridge. Turned out to be the cartridge. The second new one works fine.

The deskjet 5650 has a flashing yellow downward arrow. What dies this mean?

Remove one cartridge and close the access door. If the cartridge light goes off, the bad cartridge has been removed. If the light continues to blink, remove the other cartridge and reinstall the first one. If the light goes off, the cartridge in the printer is the good one.

HP920c cartridge light wont stop blinking, printer wont print

Please refer below for detailed troubleshooting of the specific condition:

PRINT CARTRIDGE light RESUME light POWER light Blinking Off On c00106873.jpg c00106862.jpg c00106865.jpg Problem

The printer top cover is open, or there may be something wrong with the print cartridge.

  1. Close the printer top cover.
  2. If the PRINT CARTRIDGE light continues to blink, continue with the following steps:
    1. Open the top cover. The print cartridge cradle will move and then stop.
    2. Locate the yellow arrow on the top of the print cartridge cradle. The yellow arrow points to a drawing of a cartridge that represents a symptom. Perform the task associated with that symptom.
    3. For a list of symptoms, refer to How to use the cartridge drawings under the top access door on a 900 series Deskjet .

The yellow light blinks and it won't print

I also started having problems with my HP 870Cse when I began using refilled cartridges and had ink leakage (cartridge contacts corrupted). Check for this problem. If so, remove cartridges and gently clean the spillage. Then try using HP brand cartridges and see if this doesn't remedy the problem.

Cant print. the tear like button is blinking

I have a 6940 color printer and I am assuming the 'tear' buttons are the same. If so, it is an out of toner indicator.

well..assuming that the text is the same on all, this might be a settings issue, with the print spooler. That's in the set up of the printer, under properties..look into that, and perhaps you'll want to spool the whole job, instead of printing immediately?

print spooler memory is finite, so the longer jobs will take longer.

Paper Size Error

Hi there check that the printer properties have not been changed.

  • Click Start
  • Select Printers and Faxes
  • Right hand click on printer icon
  • Select Printing preferences
  • Check that the paper size matches that you have got in the tray
  • OK and exit and test
If the above doesn't work try the following

  • Open MS Word
  • Open the document that you are having problems with
  • Click File
  • Select Page Setup
  • Check that Paper Size is correct
  • OK close and test.
This is normally a driver issue as the paper tray on the printer doesn't know what size paper is in it until you tell it from the driver.

Hope this works for you
Thanks J
