Most probably a power unit, mother board or a processor failure. Any of the three can happen. I recommend you to take it to a tech. If there is a Dell service station take it there.
If it just shut down while you were working:
Have you checked the battery. Have you tried it using the direct power? Any burning marks or smell? Have you checked the Adapter also?
Check them. IF you use direct power were you using a surge protector? Have you dropped it? Does the start button work well? Any abnormal thing related to the button? Have you spilt water on the machine?
If all are fine then you have to take it to a tech.
I suspected the damage cause is inside. It might have some spark inside that affect the wires.
I you want to replace your power adapter send it to the service center near you. Just tell them that its not working. (If under wrranty replacing of parts is free of charge). If you tell them that you accidentally broke it, it replacement is not free of charge due to user fault.
Hi my inspiron 6400 cannot boot up after trying several time .I press switch on, then after 3 second it goes off again.Battery fully charge.
2)rep used mother board
3)rep touch pad
