First try buying a CD/DVD Cleaner Disc. Let it try to run a few times; the lense could be just dirty. If that doesn't help, go to Amazon.com and look up your model of thinkpad and see how much a new drive for it will run ya!!! ^_^
It depends on your operating system to fix this issue. In Windows 7 click on the audio icon in the bottom right corner and click on the icon above the volume control to select the output while the HDMI cable is connected.
