.nds files are Nintendo DS image (usually are from NDS games or homebrew). you need an Nintendo DS and a NDS Flashcart (i.e. M3 Adapter, Super Card, M3 Simply, R4 DS, etc.).This files can be open on an Emulator (i.e. iDeaS, ndsemu, no$gba, etc) but the games don't play successful as sometimes the emulator crash. So it's better to use the file on a Nintendo DS.

Yeah you need a flash card to run those on a DS console. I got one at http://www.dscardworld.com I managed to find this site after I got burned at a few others. Loved having my emails responded to because I had loads of questions, and they were quick to ship it.
