the umd drive is approaching its end of the life. you might need to buy http://www.consolezombie.com/store/slim-replacement-drive-laser-assembly-p-34.html and replace your umd drive. This is what i just did to my psp-2001.
PS: The above link is only for PSP-200x (slim version of PSP)
Hi! I incounter this problem as well even without UMD its still loading and even I disable auto-start UMD still same so I tried reflashing the software but still same problem so I discover the solution before you turn-on your PSP try to open your UMD cover you'll see it will load faster then close again the cover once you see the battery and clock icon... The problem that causing this is the switch inside the UMD possible its stock-up or spoiled already!
oohhh hat was great relief for me ! i just squeesed 2 orange peal wih some ginger juice into the umd slott & enchaned a magical spell. it got all right after yhis inciden.. if u wanna know hose magical words plez conact me at my google account . [email protected]... belive me there is something called magic
I think the it is possible your UMD case is cracked and the clear part is pressing down on the disc inside. Check and pull the clear part of the case from the media disc.
