This camera downloads video over a Firewire (DV) connection. Some mini-DV cameras only use the USB connection (if they have one) for stills and can only download video by Firewire. This is because you have to play the tape into the computer, not just copy a file. The way it works on my computer, the camera is controlled by the computer software (even Windows Movie Maker will work). No driver needed.
Most PCs have a USB port, but no Firewire port. Macs often have a Firewire port but may not have USB. As most Windows PCs do not come with this interface, you might need to fit an add-on Firewire interface card. This will come with a driver for the card. If you have a MAC, you may already have a port.
Suitable Firewire (DV) cables can easily be found on Amazon or eBay. You will need the kind with a small (four pin) connector at one end and a larger (six pin) connector at the other. My camera came with the correct lead.
The SC-D103 doesn't take SD cards. It takes Sony Memory Sticks and compatibles from third-party manufacturers such as Lexar and Sandisk. Be careful, it will not take Memory Stick PROs.
i have this same problem for a while and just stumbled on the (yet to be verified) solution. www.samsungclassaction.com. if this settlement is legitimate then Samsung will repair for free! (and refunds for people who paid Samsung to repair). the site asks for contact info but i worry about scams so i'm going to contact Samsung directly.
I did not find any step by step instructions. I just took my time and took it apart. I got A schematic from here http://www.eserviceinfo.com/ enter the scd103 in search. You have to download "ALL THE FILES" first, There are 9 files in which you have to get. As for buying the CCD chip, I have not rally searched into buying one. As I bought A scd103 and A scd107 off E-Bay and put the 107 CCD chip into the 103. I can look around to help you find the chip. Hope this helps.
there is a couple other posts on Fixya regarding this issue, the CCD sensor going bad and resulting in no image. i have the same issue and i just stumbled on the (yet to be verified) solution. www.samsungclassaction.com. if the settlement is legitimate then Samsung will repair for free! (and refunds for people who already paid Samsung for repairs). the site asks for contact info but i worry about scams so i'm going to contact Samsung directly.
