Memorex cd-rw/dvd-rom wont install

try other known good windows installer. if it boot, then the problem is in xp installer, if it not. try other external cd-rom drive. also be sure the disc rom drive are dvd rom drive because a cd rom drive cannot read dvd disc but a dvd rom drive can read cd rom disc installer

Did you install the right drivers for the drive? It happened to me in the past where my DVD burner would only burns regular CDR's.

You will have to chnage the Boot Priority

Go to BOIS setup coniguration option by hiting F2 , F12 or Del key when staring the system

Change the priority to CD ROM as first priority and insert the Windows Disk and reboot the system to Run the Win XP setup

check the jumpers are on master slave or both on CS Cable Select

The CD Burner drive is compatible with your Windows XP the software version is where the problem is. You need to get an updated version of the burner program, something like Nero burning ROM or Roxie EZ CD creator.

Should be IDE cable...IDE interface according to the specs. You computer has IDE connections so the drive should work.

You need to have a software driver download for the Memorex DVD-RW and Lite-on CD ROM. You can have it from the Internet. Just type at the Search engine blank (Download for driver of Memorex DVD-RW). Upon reaching the site, Choose the one with Windows Vista OS. Then, thereafter you can get the download for Lite-on CD ROM. After having the
download, go back to your PC menu and open the
download to install it. Once installed, test it. And job
well done.

Format your machine to its orignial OS (XP Home). There are some limitations that some of machine wont able to carry. The XP Professional might not compatible with your machine. That's why you encouter hang-up from your machine.

Please go and buy a new dvd writer in place of dvd-rom.
