My Coleman Powermate Pulse 1750 generator shuts down

As stated, my generator shuts down when I try to run my skilsaw. My saw draws 10 amps. Generator is rated for 15. Do I have an internal problem with the generator? Shouldn't this unit run a drill or skilsaw without a problem?

Your generator should run a power tool rated at 10 amps. The 15 amps you mentioned for the PM1750 is for the DC rating. The AC rating is 11.6 amps.

You might have a thermal issue with the ignition coil shutting down after it gets warm. Happens.

My 60kva deutz diesel generator trying to run down when i put it on load,in which it has been carring same load before

It is suggested you to run your Deutz diesel generator according to users' manual, thus, it can help prolong the service life longer and less problems occur during the use of the generator. Goes into overload and shuts down

Not very much information in your problem troy but you might be drawing more amps than your producing. I had bought a nice little Craftsman electric tire pump but my Yamaha kept dying. After reading the labels, my 2400IS puts out 15 amps and my tire pump needed 18 amps, my friend now has a nice tire pump for his home use. I've seen post that RVers have to add the "booster" kit to start their air conditioners, extra power is needed to start them after that the 2400 can run them. Just a thought, try reading the metal tag on what your trying to run and see how many amps it needs. Anything over 15 will shut you down and some will need that extra "boost" to get them started. I seem to think I read somewhere that it is about $75.00 for the Yamaha booster kit.

Onan 5500 marqui gen set stumbles on demand

Steve,

The microwave alone shouldn't cause a problem for the generator as even the most powerful models run about 1200 watts or about 10 amps. An air conditioner on the other hand, can draw considerably more power to run depending on BTU size; 15 amps and up is not uncommon (and even twice as much as that though only briefly when starting).

If these were the only things connected and on, the generator should be able to handle them - again depending on the BTU size of the AC unit. Generators state their capacity in Watts, but must of the devices we connect are in Amps. Calculating Watts in an AC circuit is complicated, but pretty close to the much easier Watts in a DC circuit for most residential settings. Here's how it's done:

Watts = volts x amps. Pretty simple stuff. Your generator is rated at 5500 watts. The microwave is say, 120 volts / 10 amps - which equals 1200 watts. The generator has 4300 capacity available now. Suppose your air conditioner is rated at 120 volts / 15 amps - which equals 1800 watts. 4300watts - 1800watts = 2400watts capacity is left. But, the starting current for the AC is as much as 25 amps for a few seconds (and once started drops back to 15 amps) - which means there's only 1200 watts capacity left. Add up the rest of the appliances you're running at the same time (TV set, Cable / Satellite box, stereo, toaster, lights, computer, etc.- you get the idea), and you can see how you might have exceeded the 5500 watts capacity of the generator for a few seconds. It's at these times that your hear / see the generator speed falter and sputter, lights dim, etc.. If this is happening a lot, you may need a larger or additional generator.

I hope this helps and good luck!

I HAVE A POWERMATE 5000 THAT SHUTS DOWN UNDER LARGE LOAD . I THINK I NEED AN IDLE CONTROL MODULE.THERE IS A 2 WIRE MODULE IN THE START CKT. #21009XA IS THIS IT AND WHERE DO I GET ONE .

Idle control comes into play when there is no power draw forcing the engine to idle with an electro magent. If you feel that the electro magnet is interfering with governor, temp remove the wire to the solenoid. Usually the idle control will not effect how the engine /gen output power. An overloaded condition will cause the engine the go the full throttle as the internal governor of the engine will try to maintain 3600 rpm. Overloaded condition will greatly shorten the life of the generator/engine. Try to use only about 80 % of rated power. Large motors can draw three times running amps. A compressor using 12 to 18 amps to run can draw over 40 amps to start.
If your generator could handle the load in the past, check the engine for loss of power, or the generator for faulty voltage regulator or capacitors out of range. Easy to check. Connect digital volt meter to plug /load and look at volt reading while running with no load and loaded. Voltage should stay between 110 to 120 under load and with no load (unless goes into idle mode). Good luck

Generato only able to run 2 saws at a time not generating enough power

Your generator is too small. if you have a unit that only has a duplex outlet or you can carry it with one hand, it might be time to upgrade. To find out the wattage you will need look at the data plate on the saws, there will be a number next to the word AMP once you have this from both saws add them together. With this amperage we will make a small calculation using watts law which states Watts divided by voltage equals amps. Also most generators are designed to run a constant current unlike the erradic draw that would be created by only one saw. When you figure out your load demand, add 15% to it as allowance for the surge in power. In cases of chain-binding or really hard wood, the saw requires much more amperage.

I have a coleman model 8333A8664 a/c unit on a fleetwood camp trailer and was wondering what watt generator would be needed to run it properly?

Because it won't be powering just your AC, I would recommend 5000W. It's that big amp draw when compressor kicks in that will pull it way down, if not strong enough. Take for example the fact that a dedicated 20 amp breaker and cable are the norm for RV's to use for AC now. Double check also that the generator your purchasing will take a momentary surge draw of up to 20+ amps without tripping breaker on generator. I say 20+ because once RV is plugged in or wired to generator, it will be powering any other hydro operated appliances, lights, converter etc that the trailer has on board. I bought a cheapie rated at 4000W, and 3000 running watts, but it kicks out the breaker just trying to start my portable air compressor, rated at 15 amps.
