Re: How to format a install windows xp3 on FUJITSU...
Backup your data first in any external source. insert bootable cd of xp and boot from it. follow the instruction and finish the installation after that install required drivers and apps.
in starting you need to select boot from cd., can be select-able from bios and also by pressing f12.
After the setup installs then it will ask if you want to install xp, repair or install to another partition.
Choose install and the install program will say that it is inspecting and looking for previous Windows.
The dialogue will now say that a previous Windows is installed and to choose whether you wish to install on the same partition -you do not, delete that partition -you do. I think it is "D" to delete, then "L" on the next Window.
When you see the next screen it will list the partitions. Notice the "unpartitioned" disk space -that is where you want to install the new Windows.
It should be all or most of your hard drive space. If there are other partitions delete those as well unless there is a relatively small partition, say 4 or 8 gigabytes partition that may have information stored for the hard drive itself to use for it's own purposes.
When you have the unpartitioned space maximized by deleting the existing Windows you be asked if you want to format the drive in NTFS, Fat32 or leave intact or quick format.
Choose NTFS, full format (slow) and let the format begin.
When complete it will reboot automatically or you can reboot yourself.
After reboot the Windows driver load and inspection will repeat but this time you will have a formatted partition. Choose that for your new install of Windows. After that is complete reboot to your hard drive, not the cd. You can remove the cd if you want to make sure you are booting to the hard drive but the new Windows installation may ask that you reinsert the cd as it loads drivers and so on. At this point have any other cds available for installing drivers for printers, video cards, network adaptors and so on. If you do not have them then download the Windows 2000 drivers to a thumb drive or cd before you do this install.
Windows has program compatibility program that inspects or lists what devices might not be compatible with Windows 2000. Also the manufacturer can tell you what Windows versions they can support. Here is a comprehensive list of Microsoft downloads for Windows 2000. Make sure that you have service pack 4 downloaded to cd or thumbdrive.
You need the network driver for your WLAN card for Windows 7. Most manufacturers have not updated their drivers yet, and Siemens would be among them.....
I have been through this myself, the software you are missing is called
Launch Manager. Browse to Li 2727 on
http://ts.fujitsu.com/support/downloads.html and download the drivers
for vista, verified working on win7 ultimate. Install launch manager and
the wireless + brightness hotkeys will work again without any further
setup!

I just fixed this problem on the 4120 for a friend, What I did was first to install the drivers from the Fujitsu site so XP was displaying all drivers as installed in Device manager.
Then I ran windows update to patch it up to date and then I downloaded the drivers from the wacom site.
http://www.wacom.com/en/support/drivers
Then choose tablet pc from the first drop down and then os (xp in my case) from the second drop down. Reboot Pen working!
Download the drivers from Fujitsu or it will never be correct. Once you have all required drivers, it should be fine, assuming Fujitsu support Win7 that is.
That is because SP3 is a newer system than plain old XP. If you follow the menu's through it will invite you to overwrite the XP3. Have fun as if you do and haven't got SP3 on disk there is no more support for XP!
EASY WAY use RESTORE or WINDOWS Install CD, each has a re-partion and format utility during install, look at bottom of Install selection window, If you don't want to continue install after format, just power off the system.
Post comment if need other options for formatting.
You have regular PC? It would help if you need to make a floppy.
if you formatted it then your probably going to have to get online via another computer, or a wifi connection if you have the drivers for it, and download the drivers, then install them to your laptop. By (re)installing vista (unless of course your using a recovery cd for that exact model) you ended up with nothing more then the basic OS with the absolute basic drivers.
