Lately, all "white" objects, text, spaceships, etc. have "glows"

Hi -
I have a 4805 and have had so for a bout 2 years, (and not "overused" the light bulb,) in my opinion, but lately any time I watch DVD's, that have a lot of contrast, (Ex. the opening text scrawl on star wars) there is a glow around the letters,  -like a "bleed" of the color.

Another example is when I see scenes in space, ships or planets, they also have a "glow" around them as well - any hard light or bright whites, windows, lights, etc on screen have this glow - I have tried bright/contrast adjustement but even darkening down the image, I still see this effect -

Any ideas?

Jerry

Do you also have a glow around the projected image, try projecting on a white wall without any borders. The cause for this is dirt inside the lens elements diffusing the light.

Its commonly refered to as a Light Tunnel Failure. Go to www.avsforum.com and search for "4805 Light Tunnel" and you will finds threads on how to fix the problem.
If you have never opened the PJ before, there are 1-2 threads about opening the cabinet.
I also posted a DIY replacement solution that may help:

White Vertical line in the screen.

Again, this sounds like a light tunnel failure. See my other post about this.
I replaced my light tunnel with square brass tubing I picked up at the hobby shop.

White Pictures

if the camera is on a very reflective surface such as sasnd or snow, sometimes the light meter can be fooled and so you have to try to find a snow mode or manually increace the apeture or shutterspeed or lower the ISO you might also check to see if the camera is set on a very high ISO, or very low apeture or shutter speed, another possibility is that the exposure level is set very high or is locked so the camera will over expose, also if you focus the camera on a dark object, then the rest of the picture will be over exposed, so try to focus on a object that is about halfway between black and white.

Inside of your TV their is a fluid that keeps the tubes cool. Over the years this fluid will turn cloudy and cuase the screen to look dull, bright white, have halos, etc. You can get the fluid over the internet from various sources or your can get a complete kit including repair instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com.

White objects (especially text) on a black background produce a white halo effect around the white lettering. When playing a PS3 game I noticed that the blue color appeared black, as though I had no blue...

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.
