Question about Toshiba Satellite 1805-S253 Notebook

1 Answer

Problem with freezing/starting

It's an old 1805-s253 and its biggest problem is it won't boot most of the time.  The power light will turn on, but nothing inside is working and the hard drive light will not even come on.  It does this both connected to the ac and not.  Once in a great while it will seem to "catch", but then it will eventually lock up seemingly randomly, but especially if it is jostled whatsoever.  Just ordered a new hard drive hoping that is it, but any other ideas? anyone else have this problem?

Yes - have the same problem - thought it was a loose connector so popped the plastic cover, lifted the keyboard and re-seated the only multi-pin connector I could see. This helped, but after about 6 shutdowns and powerups it did it again - so not sure what the issue really is - also reseated the hard drive - no effect.

Does the machine boot to bios? If so, it could be the harddrive. If it won't even boot to bios, try changing or re-seating the memory. These models are a bit buggy.

Thanks, good luck

I have a Toshiba satellite A200 - 1CJ, old of almost 1 year. It doesn't want to start AT ALL. After I plug it in, the battery's led looks red and the power led BLINKS blue. Have you any idea what happened?

It sounds as though your system is getting no power at all- try a second ac adapter. If that does not work, if in warranty, contact your technical support provider to get it serviced. If not, there is a good chance you will need a replacement motherboard- find a reputable technician and see about purchasing the replacement board.

I have a Toshiba Satelite 1805-s253. When I turn it on, it attempts to start but then will immediately shut down with the power indicator flashing orange. I check the power supply and that is working ok.

power supply must b okay but the lead connecting laptop may have gone faulty, try changing it, if this is not the reason then some internal hardware problem

Toshiba 1805 will not start up - Operating system does not load, everything is blank!.

The RAM may need reseating or it maybe faulty.
If reseating the RAM module/s doesn't work and if you have two RAM modules, then try one at a time.
You could take the RAM to your friendly shop and get them tested or test them in another laptop.

Toshiba Satellite 1805-s253 memory upgrade

Usually this means it supports 512 mb of "Single sided" ram, which is rarer and more expensive... the usual ram you buy now is double-sided.. which will often only see one of the sides in older machines.

Comes up a grey screen when I turn it on...

had same issue - on 1805-s253 - had to replace the inverter - there was a recall from Toshiba on that part for that series - you find sources for the part via a google of '1805-s253 inverter'
