Lights on scanner moves, not showing scan

My scanner wouldn't scan because it said it was locked. Not so. clicked it back and forth, turned off computer, restarted and it's unlocked, the lights on, scanner bar scanning, but no scan that I can see. Tried both auto and regular - copy and scan. It worked fine until today. What can I do? [email protected]

SOURCE: how do you unlock a visoneer scanner 5800

Ensure you are using the power supply that was provided with the scanner.

The power through the strip may be fluctuating and causing the problem.

Download and install the driver provided on the 5800 USB support website.

SOURCE: 'Unlock the hardware lock' message

Does the scanning carriage move at all when the scanner is starting up? If not, then it might have stuck and needs to be moved back and forth a couple of times manually to loosen in, with the power not applied of course, and for that you would have to remove the glass most probably.
Also observe if the belt that moves it is properly attached to the carriage, placed over the motor gear and the support gear at the other end.
Of course the motor itself might have failed, or it's control electronics.

Lift the lid as if you are going to make a copy of a document.. then whith the lid up turn the printer off still with the lid up turn the printer on and watch the scan lamp .. the light that moves when you make a copy. Verify that it lights up and moves back and forth. If it does not move back and forth the scanner lock may be in the locked position.. let me know

IS showing L 1 in the screen and stop working

L1 or L1-00 indicates Scanner movement failure. The scanner is the part under the glass that lights up and moves back and forth. So if you lift up the feeder so you can see the glass, turn the machine off for a few seconds then back on. Watch the movement of the scanner. It should move right and inch or two then back to the left. If all goes well the copier should come to ready. Lay a piece of paper on the glass and press the print button to watch the scanner movement. If it binds up or does not scan correctly there are 2 possibilities.
1) your scanner lock is engaged and is preventing the scanner from moving. Check the clear plastic dial located under the far left upper side of the copier, near where the paper exits the machine. Make sure it is in the unlocked position.
2) Your scanner rail is dirty and dry. This rail can be seen under the glass towards the back of the copier. The scanner rides on this rail. It is very common for these to get dirty and for the grease to dry up causing the scanner to freeze up on the rail. The glass must be removed and the rail cleaned and lubricated.
Just power off then on the copier to reset.

Trouble shooting

The "car sound" could be an indication that the scanner is locked. Check the lock switch on the bottom of the scanner. Move the switch back and forth a few times and then leave it in the locked position. Another possibility is that you are scanning heavy items such as books. If too much weight is placed on the scanner glass, then pressure could be enough to prevent the scanning element from moving as it should.

The code 201 sometimes can indicate a power issue...meaning the scanner is not getting enough power. Try connecting the usb cable to a different port on the computer (preferrably directly to the computer and not through a USB hub).

Problem with new set

Sounds like the lock-switch is in the locked position. This is on the bottom of the scanner. Move the lock-switch back and forth a few times and then leave it in the unlock posotion. Try scanning again.

If you are scanning a book, it may be too heavy and putting enough pressure on the scanner that it is preventing the scan head from moving fully. Try scanning with nothing on the glass to see if it does the same thing.
