Whirlpool Refrigerator fresh food section cool but not cold (freezer ok).

We have a Whirlpool Mark I Series Refrigerator. Model EHT201MKNR1, Type: 19ATR80 After a long period of sitting on without much use, last weekend we tried to use the refrigerator. However, the fresh food section was cool, but never got cold (even after adjusting the temp dials to make fresh food section colder). The freezer section was fine and keeping things frozen. I did notice the back wall of the freezer had a lot of ice build up. There was some ice build up in the rear upper section of the fresh food area too. I tried clearing away the ice build up in the freezer, etc. However, I was not able to get all of it out of the openings at the top of the fresh food section. Further, I could hear the fan running in the rear of the freezer section, so the evaporator fan appeared to be running. Any suggestions?

The most likely problem is in the defrost system. Behind the freezer panel there is not only an evaporator fan, but also the evaporator itself, and a defrost heater, termination bi-metal, and drain pan (or trough). You will likely find ice build-up in the evap coil. This could be caused by the defrost timer, the heater, or the termination bi-metal.
Have a service tech look at the unit.

My Model #gts22wcp fridge stopped getting cold. freeezer works great. Only blows cold air into fridge if freezer door is open.

Possibly a problem with the defrost system. If the cooling coils behind the freezer wall start to build up too much frost or snow, the air flow to the refrigerator section gets blocked first. So the freezer still works but the fresh food section starts to get warm . As the frost continues to build up, in time the freezer section will only get as cold as the fresh food section should. There are 3 main parts to the defrost system. You could have a burned out defrost heater, a bad defrost timer, or a bad defrost termination thermostat. The heater is located directly under the cooling coils in the freezer. The termination thermostat is a silver round disk clipped to the top of the same cooling coils, and the timer in located in the control panel in the fresh food section.

How can i fix it when kenmore type JD21, model 970-432603 refrigerator not cold but freezer is cold

Ice build up on the coils can cause this. If there is ice then you need to check the defrost timer first to see if it works. Then check the defrost coil, then the fan.

Ge refer model psc25mstass fresh food section not cold enough freezer cooling fine

I realize this is an old post but information is always helpful if it is correct. I have a GE Model TFX22ZRB, Main tools needed are a refridgerator thermometer, a cheap multimeter, 1/4" hex driver, phillip screwdriver and regular blade scewdriver, above all, alow time for tempeture change when measuring tempeture. The freezer is running at -8 degrees C or aproximately 28 degrees F. I don't care about 1 or 2 degrees at this point in the freezer, the defrost system is working ok, The freezer is cold enough. The fresh food section is running at 48 degrees F, the damper is wide open between the freezer and cold food section, I manually removed the damper door and controls since I am only interested in seeing if I can drive the fresh food section colder. Looks like the fresh food thermostate controls the compressor and not the damper to shut off the cooling process when the tempeture gets cold enough. Since the fresh food section does not get cold enough (this should be in the uppers 30s F) there is no need to move the fresh food thermostate out of the normal range setting (mid point in my case) with the operator control. Defrost heaters ok, this unit uses 2 heaters hooked in series with a evaporator coil thermostate also in series with the heaters. Heaters aproximately 25 ohms total risistance, coil thermostate open at room temp and closed when below 32 degrees. Only other item in circuit is the defrost timer, this can be manually advance to open and close the defrost circuit, in my case, when in the defrost mode, the evaporator fan stops and the heaters heat up. The defrost timer in my case has a 12-16 hour cycle time and a 30 min defrost time, so in a 24 hour period I may get only one defrost cycle. One item of importance. make sure something has not fallen in the lower back or the fresh food section of the refridgerator to block the air flow return, this will effect the coo;ing process. Now with the damper wide open, the defrost circuit working ok I am going to look at the evaporator fan itself for speed, shifted blades or the air circulation between the freezer and the fresh food section, I have cleaned the condenser coils but I am leaving the condensor and compressor out of the equation since the freezer is cold enough but at this point I am considering the possibility, I may need to replace the fridge if the compressor is not working to par.

We have a roper frig that we use for vaccine storage, the freezer does not stay cold enought for their storage; if we adjust to freezer temp for vaccines then refrigerator is too cold for storage

Good day,
Usually caused by the machine in a cool area or room, along with the machine not getting enough door action, both freezer and fresh food.

Domestic refrigerators are designed to be used as just that. Domestic refrigerators.
Normal kitchen temperatures, followed by minimum of 7 freezer door openings per day spread over 14 hours as well as 22 to 26 fresh food door openings over the same period of time.

In other words, it's not getting enough activity daily. Common problem in doctor offices.

The best model for that type of application in the past was the Amana bottom freezer model. where the primary control was located in the freezer, nailing the freezer temp, and the top controlled by a pneumatic damper controlling the fresh food section, but I do not know if their current model still uses that system.

One option, space permitting is a small chest type freezer added to what you have.

Refrigerator does not get cold - GE side by side

In my GE side-by-side refrigerator (model number GSS20IEMDWW), there is a motor-controlled flapper door between the freezer and fresh food side. Cold air from the freezer side cools the fresh food side when that flapper door is open.

It is located at the top of the fresh food side on the dividing wall between the fresh food side and the freezer. If this is blocked with something (large left-over container, soft drink bottles, etc), it _may_ be enough to prevent sufficient cooling of the fresh food side.

Of course, there may be a more serious problem with the flapper door mechanism or the control unit that signals the flapper door to open/close.

The vegetable and deli drawers may have a small opening (manually controlled with a wheel or a slider of some sort) that connects those drawers to the freezer side, thus explaining how those areas are still functioning as expected.

Refrigerator does not get cold

In your freezer section, there should be a "control" for the freezer temp. I say "control" because the knob is attached to a flap that only controls airflow the the lower section. If the knob is turned to coldest it will block almost all of the air from getting into your fresh food section.

REFRIGERATOR BOTTOM IS NOT COLD.

OK that number is good, Frigidaire model GLRT13TEB3 Sometimes the freezer section appears to be cold enough but you may need to check it if we don't find the problem soon. If your freezer is not defrosting properly it will restrict air flow to the fresh food section and that make us think that's the only problem. Your refrigerator has a defrost timer located inside the fresh food section behind the thermostat control cover. Unplug the refrigerator and open back of the freezer compartment to expose the evaporator coil. If covered with ice or frost this will be considered to be something wrong with defrost circuit. First we check timer, then element and then the defrost thermistat. Let me know what you find after you expose the evaoprator. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Refridgerator not cooling

I always look underneith the ice box to see if cobwebs and dust buildup is clogging the fins and condenser motor. Clean that up all nice and she might work a little better. Look for frost on the back of the freezer, that indicates a bad heater. Listen for the fan motor in the freezer section. If it quits the cold air cannot get into the fresh food section. Check the damper (if applicable) to see if it is opening and allowing cold air from the freezer to get to the fresh food compartment. Look for to many food items in the freezer section blocking the cold air. If she needed freon you would fell absolutely no heat on the conderser coils below the ice box. MORE
