HP Pavilion ze2000 will not power on

I have an HP Pavilion ze2000 and it will not power on even while plugged into the wall. A couple of weeks ago it shut down in the middle of me using it, but it powered right back up. Lats week it powered down and after about 15 minutes or so it powered back on. Last night is shut itself down while i was on the internet and this time it will not power back on. It did for a split second (all the lights came on, and it sounded like it was going to start), but then it turned back off and is now currently dead.  I really need this laptop for school work. Any ideas of what the problem could be will be GREATLY appreciated.

I have a hp pavilion ze2008wm that i bought brand new, and after 2-3 months it died and would not come back on with/without the battery and/or ac adapter. i lost the receipt in a fire, and was unable to claim the warrenty. a year later i still can't get it to come on. i have replaced the hard drive, took it into a shop, and the computer place couldn't even fix it.

Have HP Pavilion ze2000 and it will not turn on with our without the battery and even when plugged into the wall. Last week the screen shut off while on it and you had to power it off and turn it back on manually. It is about 2 years old and out of warranty. I guess we are out of luck. I just spent $175 on a computer guy to come to the house and clean it out and he said that he thought something was wrong with it and something he could not fix.

I have the same problem! One thing that I had to do when it started automatically shutting off was take out the battery. I wasn't able to use it as a laptop then without the power cord, but I could still use it. It's worth a try.

The other problem I have now is that the pin where the power cord attaches got loose and they want to charge me $600 to resolder it to the motherboard. So now the computer won't turn on at all and I'm not sure what to do. I really feel like I shouldn't have had these problems for a laptop that's barely two years old. Ugh!

I have the same exact problem with the same exact HP Pavilion ze2000. This is finals week, and my dusty American Express card might love me soon if I can't get this thing working. The thing started randomly shutting down on my a week ago. I took it apart down to the motherboard, removed the fan and manually picked dustballs 1cm in diameter out of the unit. I blasted it with compressed air, put it all back together and it worked...for 2 days. I left a virus scan running last night, and it completely died on me. Won't turn on today at all...please help!

have a ze2000 notebook and will not power on. Power supply working ok and batteries charged but still no turn on

  • Anonymous Jan 03, 2008

I think we need to write to HP en masse about this problem and see if they would be willing to do a recall or something along those lines. To the user who had the fan/dust problem, I also had so much dust in my computer it was a massive ball (much more than I would have thought from normal useage.) This computer is not old enough to be having all these problems.

    What do you all think?

I have spent more on this computer then what is worth but since all important docs were on fixed it one more time. the jack where the plug goes into gets loose ad breaks away therfor you need to replace the motherboard. have done this 2x now and it is broke yet again, will not be fixing it this time around cause have everything saved that I need elsewhere. Many techs have said it will continue to break cause it is so fragile they way they cord as to be in there. IMO that type of laptop sucks and the way the cord/adaptor is, is a joke

my battery was fully charged and the power shut off. After a few minutes it came back on, then shut off minutes later and never came back on.

I have an Acer laptop and up to a few days ago everything was fine. Today well the batery is dead, and when I use the AC power supply the light on the cord itself will begin to blink rapidly and still no power to the computer.

  • kpboiler Dec 03, 2008

My problem is the same - no power. I spoke to my IT guys at work (after I bought a new power cord) and they explained that it is the internal DC connector.

  • no63 Jan 06, 2009

Was troubleshooting the same problem on an HP Pavilion ze2000. Wouldn't power up at all...I left it plugged in for about 4 hours, then tried powering up.. Then tried to jiggle the power cable as it connects to the laptop and mistaking found out that it will boot on the battery if you unplug the cord. It works now if the battery has enough of a charge to boot. Then once the system is up, you can plug the cord back in and it runs on DC power (plug). Not the best solution and I don't know how long it will last but it worked for me..

I used my laptopone evening and turned it off. When I tried to use it the next night, it would not turn on. It does nothing at all. I've swapped the memory, pulled the battery, and bought a new power supply, and it does nothing. Anyone have any ideas, or do I now have a hockey puck?

my hp pavillion ze 2000 won't power on anymore as the small pin inside the laptop that the power cord connects to is broke. Is this something that can be easily fixed/is it expensive to fix?

I had this guy fix my ze2000 when it would not power up for $135.00. The problem is if when plugged into the electrical outlet you don't see any power light, the internal DC Power Jack needs to be replaced. It is soldered onto the motherboard, so it will have to be replaced. Others wanted to charge me $200 or more. The $135 included shipping, parts, labor and repair. I found him at

Hope this helps

When it is plugged into the wall do you see an indicator that suggest the battery is charging?

I've fixed a few laptops that developed problems with the socket where you insert the power cord. Over time these power sockets are mechanically stressed by the cable. This can lead to overheating on the motherboard and further damage.

If you don't see any indication that the battery is charging then try gently wiggling the cord to see if you can get it to work.

Assuming none of this is a problem then I agree with Paeroa's suggestion. I've seen a few laptops that become clogged with dust and reduce airflow over the CPU cooling hardware. Intel CPU's shut themselves down before they burn up. If this is the case you'll need to open the laptop and clean out the dust. This is not has hard as it sounds if you can find step-by-step instructions. I've found repair guides for a number of models by searching on the web.

Good luck.

Thank you for your solution, in this case it wasn't the PC35, instead, the PC45. The whole line was in short, cused by the PC45.

Thank you!

Also in my case the PC45 was short. I measured the PC35 and found it to have around 10.5 micro-farad. I replaced the short PC45 with an SMD-capacitor of approximately same specs and now the Hp pavilion ze2000 after this repair is alive again. Interestingly I found the failure by myself independent from this forum by the finger-test (remove all removable components incl.processor, then repeatedly click on the power-switch while touching with a finger all components for finding the one which is hot).
