Turns on, lens comes out, and then turns off immediately.
When i turn the camera on, the lens comes out, then makes a short buzzing sound then goes straight back in and turns off. it will not allow me to use any other function within this time.

Same problem here - and on 2 cameras - same exact model. Has anyone found a solution?Same problem here - and on 2 cameras - same exact model. Has anyone found a solution?
The lens comes out, short buzz, than comes in and the camera shuts down. What's the solution? One person wrote, that this problem is fixable, but expensive. Could you be a little more specific?

It sounds like a problem with the focus system. Could be sand or something - happens quite often with these lens as the focus gears are very small. So the lens have to be cleaned / repaired - it's a hardware problem, so you should contact your local Olympus service center or other local camera repair shop. If they ask too much, I can offer you the repair for a very good price. You can contact me at [email protected]

Don't try and manually push in the lens at first...the buzzing is a warning letting you know that something is wrong with the camera. By accidently removing the batteries during shut down you interupted the shut down sequence. Try and turn on the camera and immediately press the play button on the back. This should reset the camera. If not and if you are under warranty it needs to be serviced. If you are not under warranty then you can try and push the lens down. Don't use a lot of force but try and gently do it.
