SONY rear projection TV - Whites have started looking "snowy"

Hi all. I've got a SONY KP-53XBR200 Color rear video projector TV manufactured in Sept 1998. It's been in my basement since purchased new. Recently the white areas on the screen have started looking "snowy" or "grainy". If the image is mostly dark, it still looks OK, but when you're looking at something with a white background - blech :( It doesn't matter if the picture is from our Satellite, DVD player, or any one of the games systems hooked to it (ie, any of the inputs) - the picture problem is identical.

What's wrong, can it be fixed, and at what price and by who?

Tia, Ken

This is your Picture tubes getting very weak.( low in emission ) You have three in there and I guarantee they are no longer available so I would start thinking about investing in a new set, but use that one until you can't stand it anymore.

Colors are separated, double vision in lower right corner.

Oh, yea - another misaligned projection TV. All rear projection TV's seem to eventually get this disease.
Fix: perform a "convergence," which will converge all 3 color projectors to the same point.

My screen is all yellow and looks faded any suggestion

If you have already adjusted the color through the menu then it maybe hardware related. Replace bulb, and have internal projector removed and cleaned to see if this helps with the whites.

How do I stop from getting double pictures on my KP-53XBR200 53 in? And Stop the color green from going of center with the rest of the other colors?

Could be a convergence adjustment from your remote under MENU. (This can be done by you)
Could be a problem in the convergence circuitry. (This can be done a TV tech only)

Long time to power up video

My Sony KP-53XBR200 will not display any video (even from the tuner) except the internal display until it sees a video input on one of the video jacks on the back after a power hit.

I solved this by putting a video cable from Monitor out to Video 4 in (unused for other video). Voilla! Instant video on. This may not be your issue, but it fixed my set!

Kp-53xbr200 SONY video shuts off but sound stays on

Sounds like a bad solder connection. When you lose video, does the on screen display still work, and if so how about your picture in picture? If no OSD or PIP works then you may be loosing your High Voltage to the picture tubes. Some circuit board assemblies are no longer available from Sony for this model so you may be out of luck if the problem is more than a bad connection.
