Error msg i am getting the ERR message on the display of my Nikon N80 SLR. I can set the dial to ISO and change it to a number but then the shutter stays closed for a long time.

After I loaded the film, there is an error message flashing and an "E" on the display. I changed the aperture to the minimum (highest number), but that did nothing.
If you are getting an error message, check the lens to see if it is seated properly, and check the little switch at the bottom of the lens to see if it is switched up.

Just recieived a used Nikon N80 and it gives the message of open door.Frame counter and film indicator flashes when door is shut and no film is in in camera?
Confirm tht DX shows in LCD. If not then press and hold shift button then press ISO so "DX" appears.Open Camera Back. Insert film cartridge, pull film leader out to right and align with red index mark (inside film chamber on right). Make sure there is no slack in leader.Close camera back until lock release snaps closed. Fully depress shutter until film advances to first frame.
Confirm " 1" and film transport show in LCD. If Film is not loaded correctly, "ERR" show on LCD. Open cack and reload film.

Nikon F100 does not advance film to start of roll,
Jim, it really sounds like one of threethings. Either will require a repair shop.
1. the film sensor is not recognizing film in the film chamber, or film across the back, therefore not telling the advance motor to advance film...
2. The film advance motor itself needs replaced.
3. The rear door latch switch needs replaced.
Since everything else seems to do OK, I doubt the main computer board is bad.

Error message on camera
I had the same problem, what I did was set ISO to manual,and still got the Err,but I took a shot and the film advanced and it seems to be ok now.

ERR message
unmount and remount the lens. Make sure you have the aperture ring on the lens set at the minimum f-stop number, ie f22, f32. There should be a small tab on the lens to lock the aperture ring in that position

N80 camera
First, make sure that your lens is an AF lens (MF lenses won't meter with your camera). Next, be sure that the lens aperture ring is set to the smallest f-stop (highest number...usually f22 or f32). If something else is going on try to give some more detail.

Err message
If the error message is on the left hand side of your LCD monitor then your shutter is not coming on line and it might be the 'reset' switch in the back cover locking mechanism that needs replacing. If the error message is on the right hand side of the monitor then this is because the F - stop on your lens is not set to highest setting ( 16 or 22 ) . Set your lens to highest setting and check again to see if error ( FEE ? ) disapears.

N80 Help
You can only change the aperture using the command/sub-command dial on your camera.  The aperture ring on the camera must remain locked at the smallest setting (largest number).
