What is an error code E3 40? My service company for this copier went belly up, no more support for me. I have this error code, sometimes I can hold the reset button & C button down when I turn it back on and get a few copies out before the E3 40 comes up again .What is this code can I fix it? Can I reset it? Where can I get the meaning for all the error codes it is not in my operating Guide???? Help
E3-40 is a toner density sensor error. It's probably toner getting built up on the sensor. It's located under the drum. It will look like 2 little LED looking things on a little circuit board about 3-4 inches long and half an inch wide. You can blow it out with canned air.
If that doesn't work, then the sensor needs to be replaced.
You get that error when it is on for a period of time because the machine runs it's internal adjustment to how much toner is in the developer and what bias is on the drum. When it can't get a reading off the drum because the sensor is bad/dirty, it throws the E3-40.
This is not an E1-40. I'm looking at the manual and see lots of E3-40s. That error is usually a bad circuit board or just a gremlin and resetting power gets rid of it for good. I've never had it be an actual fan that was causing the issue. E1's and E5's are usually circuit board related, regardless of what the error in the manual pinpoints it to.
Are you talking about removing the drum blade? That's just a screw and a spring that needs to be removed. That spring holding it down keeps the pressure on the drum so it can clean it.
t13ebb, an E1-40 for that model is an optics fan error, but that does not mean the fan is causing the issue.
If resetting the power doens't take care of the issue, more than likely it's a bad board instead of a fan.

I just encountered the same error code. It is the problem with the toner density sensor which are located in a long skinny board which you will see hanging down on a plaster bracket after you remove the drum. There are 2 sensors. Try to clean the sensors and make sure the wire connected to it is seated firmly (that is all I need to do and my copier is working now). If still does not work, you may have to change the board, part # FFPEU0579 or FFPWB0579. To change the board, remove the white plastic clip holding the bracket and disconnect the wire. Push the bracket backward and it will drop down.
Thanks chaps
Saw the machine again today, fan at the rear of the machine was blocked by some foam!!, removed item, worked :)

Maybe that is it. It seems that when it is on for a period of time I get the error. We have been having a real heat wave here and it has been hottier than normal in the office and now when I turn it on it almost always has the error code so I shut it down and hold the reset button down and turn it back on and I get it to work, then I switch it to energy saving mode to keep it cooler
. It really says E3 40 but this sounds logical to me. Where is the fan located soI can check it?
t13ebb I think so when cleaned and got the fan working again( all I had to do was really dust it good and grease it a bit) I never got the error again and the fan works fine now. But I replaced my drum and now I need to replace the drum brush and forthe life of me I can't figure out how to get it out. I had no trouble replacing the drum but the brushes really need replacing so I got all the stuff out and want to replace this brush can you help
we want error code manual
Hi, i have an E1-40 error on a panasonic FP7115, would this be also the optics cooling fan?
