I have a friend who bought an HP Photosmart C3180 all in one ink jet printer/copier/scanner/fax to use with a Mac notebook computer. The print from the machine starts fine for maybe a half page but then begins to fade and skip lines gradually getting worse. Installing new print carteridges does not help. The carteridge looks fine. Any suggestions?
This is Maltesecross. Turns out that the faintness of my printed pages was in fact due to a low ink cartridge, even though some pages printed out fine and others half-good. Eventually, all pages turned faint, and upon re-installing the driver, I got a low-ink warning (the first one ever). Putting in a new ink cartridge solved the problem for me.

I have the same problem of half a page printing from a computer file fine, the bottom half fading out completely. Not a cartridge problem, because photocopies print out fine.
