You might try blowing out the drive with canned air. Sometimes dust over the sensor can cause this problem

If the trouble isn't being caused by some screwy virus or software problem, the best solution is to replace the drive. New drives are quite inexpensive and widely available in retail stores (at higher prices) and online.

DVD door will not open to eject DVD

There could be 2 reasons, 1. Hardware issue 2. Software drivers:
Fixing 1: Hardware
Make sure the DVD is fixed properly in your tower ( I am not sure whether you are using a tower or lappi)

The direct solution is to put a pin i the small hole present on your DVD player. That should open the DVD door.

To fix the software part.
>> Try to update the drivers depending on the operating system you are using.

>> Download the latest drivers to check if it fix the issue.

>> Open the My computer >> Right click on the CD/DVD drive and select Eject, this will normally open the door.

Else, try to uninstall the drivers from Device Manager and then restart the PC once, this will reinstall the drivers once again by its own if your Windows is up to date.

Please do get back to us, if that does'nt fix.

Gateway dx4200 09 dvd drive will not eject?

ub_clear.gif
Unable To Eject DVD From DVD-ROM Drive With The Eject
The DVD-ROM drive will not open to release the DVD when the button is pushed on the drive. RESOLUTION:
  1. Shut down the program that you are installing or running that uses the DVD-ROM drive.
  2. Wait 10 to 15 seconds, and then open the DVD-ROM drive by pushing the eject button on the DVD-ROM drive.
  3. If the DVD-ROM drive door still does not open, do the following:
    • Insert a paper clip or small pointed object into the small hole near the button on the DVD-ROM door.
Gently push in the paper clip until the DVD-ROM door opens.
    • Remove the CD from the drive.
To prevent the DVD-ROM drive from exhibiting this behavior again, follow these steps:
  1. From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.
  3. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Device Manager tab.
  4. On the Device Manager tab, double-click the CD-ROM category.
  5. Double-click Toshiba DVD-ROM.
  6. In the Toshiba DVD-ROM Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab.
  7. On the Settings tab, clear the Auto insertion notification check box, and then click OK.
  8. Click Close.

Why won't my Gateway PC DVD drive close?

Are all the Windows and Gateway updates and Hotfixes in? Look for a DVD rom fix on the Gateway website support. If there is no disk in the drive and it opens, you may want to replace it. You can try a work-around, I have no idea if it will solve the problem, but at boot open the BIOS, go to Boot sequence, Change HDD to boot first. DVD/CDrom 2nd or 3rd.

My CD tray will not after removing a fragmented disc that got stuck

It sounds as if there is either still some obstruction within the CD tray mechanism or path, or else the CD drive itself has failed and should be replaced.

I would recommend replacing the CD drive, especially if it has already caused one CD to break into fragments.

Replacing a CD drive should be reasonably easy if you have a tower computer and are happy to open the case.

Depending on the design, there are normally only 2 screws on each side of an optical drive and 2 cables on the rear to disconnect (3 cables if you have a direct sound connection from the drive to the motherboard).

Some case may have a quick release method for removing the optical drive. You should consider replacing the CD drive with a combination CD R/W DVD drive unless you already have a second DVD drive installed.

My cd compartment won't open.

You can manually open the door using a straightened paper clip inserted into a small hole in the door. Press firmly and the door will be released. You may have a CD stuck in there, or you may need to reinstall the driver for the CD. Or the CD drive may have failed...at least the control part that opens and closes the door.

Disc Tray will not open

My Gateway model #AR-230 tray would not open after several years of use. Removed the black sheet metal cover from the player to access the tray mounting screws in the black plastic tray frame. By tightening or loosening the little screws on both sides of the front of the tray mechanism, I got the tray to slide out (open) reliably again. The problem is the very close tolerance of the internal tray mechanism with the front case opening causes a mechanical hangup or interference. chemicalladdie

HP DVD 635 - auto tray open

no ghosts, you either have something jammed up inside of the drive which is keeping the door from closing properly all the way or the door itself is defective.

Either way you would be better off replacing the drive with a new dvd-rw cause the drive would be up to date and the problem with the opening door would go away.

I have a Gateway 300x Micro-Tower case circa 2002 and I can not open the case, without breaking it. I'm trying to install a new audio card and can't get at the 300x innards. Help!

Most of these towers are vertical style, therefore the big button is just to the left of the Gateway symbol. Push it in and pull the left panel away from the case.
