You can't insert a Hard drive from another PC because when it was installed on the old PC it was setup to work with the hardware for that particular computer.

You will need to reinstall a fresh copy of windows on it to make it work with the new PC it's in.Boot from CD run windows setup, format the drive then do a fresh install.

This should fix the problem, if you have any new info or need further help with any of that post back. Thank you for choosing Fixya!

Hello,

You cannot just transfer hard drives, they will not work.

however when you install the new drive and attempt to re-install your operating system, make sure that you Delete any previous Partition within the Windows Setup.

Follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your CD or DVD drive, or insert the first Windows XP Setup disk into the floppy disk drive, and then restart the computer to start the Windows XP Setup program.

Note If you are using the Windows XP Setup disks, insert each additional disk when you are prompted, and then press ENTER to continue after you insert each disk.
  2. If you are prompted, select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD or DVD drive.
  3. At the Welcome to Setup page, press ENTER.

Note If you are using the Setup disks (six bootable disks), the setup prompts you to insert the Windows XP CD.
  4. Press F8 to accept the Windows XP Licensing Agreement.
  5. If an existing Windows XP installation is detected, you are prompted to repair it. To bypass the repair, press ESC.
  6. All existing partitions and non-partitioned spaces are listed for each physical hard disk. Use the ARROW keys to select any existing partition, you must first delete the existing partition or partitions, and then create the new partition. You can press D to delete an existing partition, and then press L (or press ENTER, and then press L if it is the System partition) to confirm that you want to delete the partition. Repeat this step for each existing partition that is listed
  7. When all the partitions are deleted, select the remaining non-partitioned space, and then press C to create the new partition.
  8. To create the partition with the maximum size, press ENTER. To specify the partition size, type the size in megabytes (MB) for the new partition, and then press ENTER.
  9. If you want to create additional partitions, repeat steps g. and h.
  10. To format the partition and install Windows XP, go to step 2.

Step 2: Format the hard disk and install Windows XP loadTOCNode(3, 'moreinformation');
  1. Use the ARROW keys to select the partition where you want to install Windows XP, and then press ENTER.

  • Format the partition by using the NTFS file system NOT QUICK!!
After the Windows Setup program formats the partition, follow the instructions that appear on the screen to install Windows XP.

Are you using a USB flash drive to reinstall xp?
If so, see this article for possible cause of this error. partmgr.sys is MS partition manager. Read about formatting and partitioning your hard drive.by clicking here.
In any case, since you have a new hard drive what you want to do is called a clean install of xp. This will wipe the hard drive clean and install the OS and drivers for you to start anew. See link here and here. If you can, you should attempt to create a slipstreamed sp3 cd to do the new install, so you will have an updated version of the OS on the hard drive when you boot it up...
You also need to have the hardware drivers cd so you'll be able to get online and update, etc. Otherwise your hardware won't work.
If you are not attempting to start fresh, you'll want to try to do a repair install instead, which will save your data.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Did you reformat the drive, or are you trying to install xp into the remaining space left over from an earlier partition?

Hi po bkit ayaw po mg sound sa speaker

Most laptops have two different sound drivers. Check your manufacturer for correct drivers. Reboot and retest! Check that you are using HD and not the digital sound system by checking your sound properties in control panel - change it to the correct one. Check that someone did not mute the sound, click the icon and check. Try different speakers, powered versus non-powered to see if there is a difference in quality.

I have a HP A6667c Desktop. Would I be able to do a complete HD format and install XP? I was told that drivers might not be available.

Hi,
According to HP the Pavilion A667 desktop PC does not support the XP operating system.
You can however try to install XP to see what happens, if you do decide to try and install XP make sure you make or have at least got a recovery disk for Vista before you install XP.

Good luck.
