Canon Muiltcast F60 "Check Printer" error

I came back from vacation and when attempting to print I received the "Check Printer, Press Resume" error. I ensured the printer cartages were correct. I made sure there is no paper jams. I also used a Canon forum to "Reset Waste Ink Code".

All of the above did not clear the "Check Printer" error.

Where do I go from here?//

I have a problem with my Canon Multipass F60. I tried to print a document and when I clicked print nothing happened. A gray box later popped up saying: could not communicate with device and to check and make sure printer is on and that the the printer is connected. Everthing is connected and I have replaced the USB cable and also reinstalled the printer and still nothing when I try to print.

The weird thing is that I can scan from the printer.

I have noticed that when I open the printer the print head does not return to the center where you can replace the ink, it just stays all the way to the right. Does anyone have any answers for this problem?

    Thanks, Steve

I got the same problem and contacted Canon and this is what I got.

Thank you for your inquiry. We value you as a Canon customer and
appreciate the opportunity to assist you. We regret to hear that your
MultiPASS F60 is displaying the Check Printer error.

The Check Printer error usually indicates that the printer carriage will
not move to or from home position. The carriage may not move for the
following reasons:

* The print head may not be installed correctly.
* There may be an obstruction in the printer path.
* The print head may have overheated.
* The print head may be defective.
* The unit requires service.

Please perform the following procedures to clear the message on the
display.

Check the print head installation.
1. Press the Open button and lift the Scanning unit. The printer
carriage will automatically move to center when the Scanning unit is
opened.

If the printer carriage will not move to the center, skip to
'Obstruction'.

2. Wait for the printer carriage to stop moving. Once the carriage has
centered, raise the lock lever to release the print head. The lever is
on the right side of the print head holder.

3. Remove the print head out of the MultiPASS.

4. Place the print head back into position.

5. Press down the lever to lock the print head in place.

6. Close the printer cover.

Obstruction:
1. Check for a paper jam, paper clip, or other foreign material that
may keep the printer carriage from sliding left or right.

2. Carefully remove the obstruction and then close the Scanning unit.

3. If you cannot remove the obstruction, the unit will require service.

Overheated print head:
1. Press the ON/OFF key to power off the MultiPASS.

2. Allow the print head and printer to cool off for approximately 10
minutes.

3. Press the ON/OFF key to power on the MultiPASS again.

4. Press the Open button and lift the Scanning unit to make sure the
carriage will move to center position.

Note: The unit has a battery back-up for your fax's user settings (i. e.
your unit's fax number, name, etc.). However, any faxes stored in
memory will be lost. Once power is restored and the unit is able to
print, a Memory Clear report will print. This report will provide you a
listing of the faxes that were lost due to power interruption. Contact
the parties on this list to have them resend you the faxes.

Defective print head:
1. Press the Open button and lift the Scanning unit. The printer
carriage will automatically move to center when the Scanning unit is
opened.

2. If the carriage has stopped in the center, remove the print head out
of the MultiPASS and replace it.

If the carriage will not move to the center, the unit will require
service.

3. Open the print head packaging and remove the new print head.

4. Lift off the orange protective cap.

5. Slide the new print head into position.

6. Press down the lever to lock the print head in place.

7. If the ink tanks still contain ink, you can remove them from the old
print head and install them into the new one.

8. Close the printer cover.

If the issue continues to persist, then the MultiPASS F60 will require
service.

The first option is Canon's Loyalty Program. This option allows you a
one-time opportunity to purchase a new printer that uses Canon's next
generation of technology at a discounted price. To help you get up and
running quickly, we also offer free next business day shipping (if the
order is completed by 12:30PM).

Your information is now registered for the Canon Loyalty Program and you
will be provided with a Discount Code. The Discount Code will be
e-mailed to you separately along with further instructions on how to use
the Canon Loyalty program.

The second option is to have an Authorized Service Facility repair your
product, at standard market rates for parts and labor.

There are two ways to find a local Canon Authorized Service Facility
(ASF). You can call 1-800-OK-CANON. Pay close attention to the options
given so it will direct you to the information that you need. You can
also find this information online.

Please follow these steps to access the online database of Authorized
Service Facilities:

1. Visit http://www.canontechsupport.com.

2. Select the product type, series, and model number from the three
drop-down menus on the center of the page and then click GO.

3. Click on Service Locator in the box on the right side of the page.

4. Enter the ZIP code of choice and it will give you the local
facilities.

Once you have found a local facility, please call the ASF first to make
arrangements to take the unit in for repair. Take the print head, ink
tanks and power cable with you to the ASF. The ASF will need these
items to perform proper troubleshooting. Unfortunately, we cannot
provide an estimated time it will take for the unit to be fixed. The
speed at which the unit is repaired is based entirely on the ASF and
their current work load.

If the unit is not in warranty, and there are no local facilities
showing up, please know that you're not obligated to use an ASF of
Canon. You may choose another service facility to fix the unit.

If you perform a search online and there is not a local ASF listed,
please let us know. There may be other options available.

We hope this information is helpful to you. Please let us know if we
can be of any further assistance with your MultiPASS F60.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

Sincerely,

George

You need to do the print head cleaning. The steps are listed below.

Print Head Cleaning / Head Refreshing
If the printed Nozzle Check Pattern is broken, missing, or a specific color is not printed, clean the print head.

1. Press the <Menu> button on the printers operation panel.

2. Press the left [<] or right [>] arrow buttons to select [MAINTENANCE].

3. Press the <Set> button.

4. Press [<] or [>] to select the cleaning setting you want. Select [HEAD CLEANING] for normal print head cleaning. Select [HEAD REFRESHING] for deep print head cleaning.

Note: [HEAD REFRESHING] uses more ink than [HEAD CLEANING], so perform [HEAD REFRESHING] only when necessary.

5. Press <Set>.

6. Print a Nozzle Check Pattern and perform at least two Head Refreshing if the pattern is not correct.
