Sounds like the x-box. Try hooking up a DVD player to it and see if you can get a picture from it.
Restart the x-box, and maybe get a can of air to blow the dust out of it.

This type of hook up is only for television viewing, to view the DVD you might consider purchasing some componet cables, they are color coded so hooking up is a snap, on the back of the DVD player you will see three RCA type connections Red/Green/Blue. componet cables are also these colors, connect one end of the cables to it coorsponding color on the back of your DVD and the other in the same color connectors labeled componet 1 input on the back of your television. You will also need a red and white RCA connector also for the audio as this is sound, a total of 5 connections will complete the hook up. Or you can go the simple route and use RCA type cables that come as yellow/red/white but for the best picture use componet cables this will allow you to watch your movies in HD.

Connect a dvd player using the same imput to compare picture quality.

Can you hook it up with RCA cables?

Press N/P button on remote, if that dont work, go into the Setup Menu and do a DEFAULT. If either of those dont work, check to make sure your video cable is in the correct location.

If your in U.S., should always be on NTSC
If outside of U.S., you would select PAL

If the player has other outputs try connecting the player to the tv using one of them, ie: use the A/V output instead of HDMI from the player. If the problem goes away there is something wrong with the input on the tv.

I recently purchased a vizio 37" LCD tv, I have tried everything in hooking up my Sony DVD surround system to the TV. However, I found no audio output on this TV. Could you tell me if there is a way to hook the tv directly up to the surround without an output?
Is there something else I need to buy?

If you are using component cables to connect the DVD to the tv make sure you have the red,blue and green colors on your cables matching these colored jacks on the tv and DVD jacks. If one of these cables is plugged in wrong or not plugged in it could cause this. Good Luck
