My printer ran out of black ink; I installed a new cartridge and it did not recognize it. I continuted to use the colour cartridge; have installed a new one; it does not recognize it either. When I try to print the moniter comes up with: "UNSUPPORTED CARTRIDGE". I have tried on multiple occasions, removing and reinstalling the cartridges; nd also making certain the tapes were removed from the cartridges. What exactly is wrong and how do I fix it? Please and Thanks so much! I have Dell 944 and have changed the black ink cartridge for a non Dell cartridge. The replacements have always worked previously. I now get an 'unsupported cartridge/remove tape' message. There is no tape. I cannot use the printer. Do you have any suggestions to overcome this problem please? Thanks Margaret

Set printer to print multiple copies. Put in less amount of paper. While printer is waiting for more paper, change cartridge.
Replacing Ink Cartridges
CAUTION: Before performing any of the procedures listed in this section, read and
follow the safety information in "CAUTION: SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS" on page 9.
Dell ink cartridges are only available through Dell. You can order more ink online at
www.dell.com/supplies or by phone. To order by phone, see "Ordering Supplies" on page 2.
Dell recommends Dell ink cartridges for your printer. Dell does not provide warranty coverage
for problems caused by using accessories, parts, or components not supplied by Dell.
1 Turn on your printer.
2 Lift the printer unit, and position the scanner support between the tabs to hold it open.
The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless the printer is busy.
3 Press down on the ink cartridge lever to raise each ink cartridge lid.
4 Remove the old ink cartridges.
5 Store the cartridges in an air-tight container, such as the storage unit you received with
your photo cartridge, or dispose of them properly.
6 If you are installing new ink cartridges, remove the sticker and transparent tape from the
back and bottom of each ink cartridge.
7 Insert the new ink cartridges. Make sure the black or photo ink cartridge is secure in the
left ink cartridge carrier, and the color ink cartridge is secure in the right ink cartridge
carrier.
8 Snap each lid closed.
9 Lift the printer unit, and hold the scanner support up while lowering the printer unit until
it is completely closed.

Lift the printer unit up. Position the scanner support beam between the tabs to hold the printer unit lid open. The ink cartridge carrier moves to the loading position in the center of the printer.
Press down on the lever in front of the right and left ink cartridges lid. The lid opens and raises up.
Remove the color and black ink cartridges from the carrier. Inspect the cartridges to ensure that it is compatible with the Dell 926 printer. The proper cartridge is called Dell 926 Standard Capacity Color Ink and Dell Standard Capacity Black Ink.
Examine the cartridges for any tape over the ink nozzle. New cartridges have a strip of tape covering the bottom of the cartridge that must be removed before installing into the printer.
Insert the cartridges into the carrier so the label is on top with the color logo side going in first. Press the lid down to snap it into place.
Push the scanner support bar back to release it. Lower the printer unit until it is closed.
Turn the printer off. Restart the computer. Turn the printer on. If the error message appears again, the cartridges may be defective and needs to be replaced.
I hope this clears up your problem.
Good Luck and Have a Nice Day!!
