Lori Davidson,

I understand that your refrigerator has stopped getting cold and you don't hear the compressor running. I would suggest to give the appliance a hard reset. You will do this by either unplugging it or cutting the power off at the circuit breaker for 3-5 minutes. After the 3-5 minutes, bring power back. If you still do not hear the compressor trying to run, I would suggest to either contact the manufacturer or your local authorized technician.

-Best Regards-

You have either a bad start relay/overload combination (12002784 - if the first two numbers in your serial number are from 10 to 26) (12002794 if the first two numbers in your serial number are 27 and higher).....or you have a bad compressor.

This is what to do. On the side of the compressor is a relay overload set. Unplug the power cord. Connect a meter to the wires going into that set. If there is no power you will need the mother board linked below. If there is power you will need another overload relay set.

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if FREEZER CONTROL is turned WARMER WHICH MAKES THE REF COLDER AND VICE-VERSA. SEE?
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
But is probably a common defrost problem The ice build up
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Make sure back cover is on the fridge. Some take them off and throw them away.
make one out of cardboard if its gone, using the holes of the old one.

A/C does not blow cold air. I did refill with 134 refrigerant, but did not help. I don't hear the compressor switch on at all. Will I need to replace the whole unit.

Hi,
Better check the A/C compressor connector, harness, and relay! test the connector by using a simple 12v light, turn on the A/C system, connect the light to the compressor terminal, and ground the body of the bulb, it light up! If not, relay and fuse will be at fault! If it lights up, the compressors magnetic clutch should be replace!
Hope that helps u out!

There is no cooloing effect

the coolling in a refrigerator occurs when the compressor forces freon thru the system and the expansion of gas in the coils of the freezer takes heat away thus cooling the fridge. if no cooling is happening then the compressor is not running, the freon is to low on the charge, or the small "cap" line from the compressor to the cooling coils is blocked. Unfortunately the compressor is the most expensive part of the refrigerator and if it has stopped this can be a expensive problem. there is a few other things that can make the compressor stop. there is an overheat protection device on the side of the compressor that once in a while opens up thus no electrical power to the compressor and no cooling. the other part that can fail is the cold control thermastat. if this opens up the fridge can't start the compressor because the open condition of the cold control never "calls for cold". the other simple thing that can stop the cooling is a totally frosted up coil condition. the air can't circulate around the coils so no cold gets to the inside of the fridge. simple test step one unplug the fridge for 10 minutes then plug back in. Do you hear the motor in the bottom run? If it runs wait ten more minutes and put your hand into the freezer compartment. Do the sides feel cold? if the motor (compressor) in the bottom runs but freezer doesn't get cold then the system is defective and there will be no easy fix. If the freezer does show cold then the problem could be with the "evaporator" fan that circulates cold. this is an inexpensive part and can be replaced at a reasonable cost.

Side by side refrigerator stopped getting cold (freezer stopped also). When plugged in, all lights and sounds still run fine.

If all fans are running and no cold at all check to see if compressor is running(under rear panel). If you hear it try and start then a click then the start relay pack may be bad,

Its not getting cold

MAKE SURE THE FANS ARE RUNNING FREEZER AND COMPRESSOR, THEN CHECK THE BACK WALL OF THE FREEZER IF ITS FROSTED UP YOU HAVE A DEFROST ISSUE. IF THE COMPRESSOR AND FANS ARE WORKING AND NO FROST IN THE FREEZER THATS NOT A GOOD THING..

Refrigerator is stuck in defrost mode.

If the compressor is running and not getting cold I would say that you have burnt out your compressor.
If it was stuck in defrost you wouldn't hear the frig running. When in defrost the compressor stops while the frig defrosts.

Does not get cold anymore. When I plug it, I can hear the motor running for about 10 sec and then I hear a clic and everything stops

thats the Compressor overheat relay kicking in sygnifying a faulty compressor meaning a systems engineer is needed to replace if economically viable..

Refrigerator not cooling.

If the refrigerator isn't cool, check to see if the light comes on when you open the door. Next check to see if the thermostat is set properly. If both of these are OK, then check to see if the compressor is running. See if the compressor motor is running. The compressor is in a case with no visible moving parts. It is usually located at the back of the refrigerator near the bottom. If it’s humming, or making a steady noise, and your refrigerator is still not cooling properly, there could be a problem with one or more various components.
Refrigerators have either a mechanical defrost timer, or an ADC (Adaptive Defrost Control). If your refrigerator has a mechanical timer, set the cold control to the coldest setting and then advance the defrost timer. You can manually advance the timer with a screwdriver. Insert the screwdriver into the advancement pinion and turn clockwise a 1/4 to 3/8’s of a turn. If the compressor starts, replace the defrost timer. For further help, you’ll want to call a professional appliance repair technician.
Sometimes you can hear a click-buzz-click sound coming from the compressor. This is the relay/overload at work. If you hear this, power is getting to the compressor. If you do, something is wrong with either the compressor or the compressor starting components. If you have a newer model with solid-state starting components, you may not hear anything at all. If there is power to the starting components, you may be able to test each part and replace any bad parts. There is also a 3-in-1 unit that may work on your model which replaces all the components in one unit. If the compressor still won’t start, you have a bad compressor and need to replace it. If it does start, wire the 3-in-1 part in permanently. Make sure the one you buy is rated for the horsepower of your appliance.
If you don’t hear anything, you can take the cover off the side of the compressor and test for voltage at the two leads. If no voltage is present, it’s time to check the cold control. To test if the cold control is bad, you can temporarily jump the two wires at the cold control. If you get power to the compressor after doing so, the cold control needs to be replaced.

Running fine but blowing warm air

"it seems to work fine but will not get cold"
Not sure how it can work fine and is not cold. When you say work fine, is the light on and the freezer fan blowing but is the compressor running?

Unplug the Ref and wait about 30 min or so, plug it back in and listen for the compressor to start running. You should be behind the Ref to hear this. If you don't hear it start running then you may hear a clicking noise. This clicking is a problen with the compressor start relay. If the compressor runs but still is not cold then it could be low on coolant.
