Toshiba 36A50 Horizontal Line in the middle

Over the last three months, the image slowly compressed from bottom and top. Earlier, I could leave the TV on for a few hours, and a full image would appear. Now there is only a 1-2" horizontal image going from left to right at the middle of the screen. What is my possible problems, possible soultions, can I get the part and repair, should I take it to a technician(cost). This set must weigh 300lbs!!!

Plasma TV has a black uneven splotch in the middle of the screen

hmmm. sounds like the screen might be damaged. You might have to get a new one. But before you do that I would try leaving it off for a while maybe a few hours or so and see if that helps.

When I turn the tv on it takes about two minutes to get a picture basically like it is slowly coming on. The TV was purchased new on March 6, 2009 so only a few months old.

I purchased a 55 inch Hitachi Plasma in 2006. In the last couple years it will randomly shut off one time in a 24 hour period. There is not a timer set and I cannot figure out what is going on. I was...

sounds like it's hot older plasma tv's are prone to being full of dirt and dust
try using a can of compressed air on it bottom to top if you get a lot of dust may be it is time to take it to the local garage and get your mechanic to give your tv a ******* and buy him a coffey or a soda pop
heck most garages have compressed air and no i dont mean the tire pump out front
go in to the guy who take care of your brakes have him do it
heck i buy my mechanic coffey all the time i usualy take him my lap top and my desk top 2 times a year each
btw my power supply in my mail server is 5 years old and runs 24/7

On CNN or during football games banner is cut off

It sounds like you're watching wide screen content on a 4:3 tv, so the screen may be zoomed in so that the bars that would normally be on the top and bottom are not showing. Because the picture is zoomed in, images that would be at the top and bottom are off the screen. If you're watching from a home receiver (Uverse, DirecTv, Xfinity, etc.) you need to change the video settings to let the receiver know that your TV's aspect ratio is 4:3 (full screen) and not 16:9 (widescreen). Also, if your channel lineup has the option of watching CNN on a standard definition channel, that would also help because the shape of the image would be what your tv was designed for. If you watch 16:9 programs, you will have to choose letter box mode (bars on top and bottom because the shape of the widescreen image does not match the shape of your tv), pillar box mode (bars on either side) zoomed, or stretched. Stretched will make the shape of everything appear distorted, as it squeezes a widescreen image on the sides to make it narrow enough, so that everyone will have tall and skinny heads like an old Kung Fu movie. The sharpest picture would likely be to watch 16:9 (hi def) content in letterbox mode (bars on top and bottom) so at least you get the proper aspect ratio that the sports were recorded in, and it comes from a sharper source (HD vs SD). I would just deal with the bars, because even with a widescreen tv, there will sometimes be bars because that's how programs are sometimes recorded, for different visual impact or cinematic effect.

There is a 5, 9 & 12 volt dc regulator on the chassis that could be causing this. Three legged transistors on small heat sinks. I f you look at the chassis from the rear of tv, is two boards. The one on the left has these reg. transistors. Usually the 9v regulator is bad and a 35ufd @ 50v capacitor near it is bad. From the tuner as ground check the third leg on the regulator for less than 9v dc.
