Same problem, same symptoms. Picture went to black suddenly, but still had sound. Hit reset on the remote and sound went too. Cable is working (using spare TV now). Sanyo TV is slightly more than a year old...no return/exchange.

My set is having the same problem. The set was given to me recently. The previous owner said they were watching it and it just suddenly went off and would not work after that. I have sound and there is a brief flash on the screen upon powering up, then screen is dark. I checked the main power supply board and everything seems ok, but I do not appear to have high voltage present at the CCFT tubes, although I have 24 volts present at power inputs of the CCFT driver board. The set is not that old, previous owner said it was still under warranty, but they misplaced the sales receipt.

I am having the exact same problem. We were watching our Sanyo DP32746 one morning, then the screen went black. We still had sound, but the picture never returned. The manufacturer's warranty just ran out 2 months ago.

I already called Sanyo for help, and they only said to try and reset the TV - no luck. We then tried unplugging the unit for a few hours - still no luck.

Have the exact same problem with my Sanyo. I do not buy the explanation that "the screen is bad". The flash of light is the ccfl backlight bulbs coming on for an instant and going back off. I believe it is one of the circuit boards causing the problem. Probably the inverter board but I have not discovered a way to test the inverter, short of replacing it. I doubt it is the bulbs themselves since they actually come on for an instant. This tv is cheap and Sanyo ought to be ashamed of the piece of junk.

Yeah! Flash of dim light when I turn on the unit but than black with sound. I plan to visit an authorized repair facility monday. Bob G

i have sound but no picture. tv is not even a year old.

  • ANDRE365 Jul 26, 2008

Thanks for nothing Sanyo! Same problem here as everyone else that bought this big black hunk of junk hanging on my wall!

  • badfc Aug 01, 2008

Exactly the same problem. About half the screen flickers when I turn it on, then no picture. Does have sound though. I'm an organized person, but can't find my book or sales receipt for this purchase. I know I haven't had the tv that long.

  • Atwima Sep 04, 2008

Please, I bought a Sanyo TV in March, 2007 but now there is sound but no pictures. When I switch it on there is a flash of light across the screen and then the scree becomes black. The tv is the CR tube type. Please , what is the ploblem?

    Thanks

I have the same exact problem on the same model no. I do feel fortunate enough that I have gotten three years out of this TV but the sound is all there and the picture is BLACK. I asked around and called Sanyo and everyone seems to think it is the replacment lamp. Sanyo stated it is not the lamp that is going to cost, that in itself is cheap ... it is the labor, well according to some other people, it is like changing a lightbulb ... pull the one out and replace it (without touchingthe bulb itself) ...

    Still researching this however ...

Hopefully this will lead people in the right direction of where to start looking. !!

My DP32746 went black just like everyone else describes after 16 months. Walmart said to me when I tried to return it that they only work with you until 90 days and Sanyo said about the same thing excpet their number is one year. If you won oneof these tv's you are screwed to the tune of whatever you pad for it. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau today (www.bbb.org) and I urge everyone to take 30 minutes and fill out the complaint. Here is the text of mine if you want to paste it into your compliant.

Complaint Text

The product DP32746 LCD TV failed before one tenth of reasonable period for the useful service life had expired. Research indicates this model is prone to inverter failure at about one year of operation on average and that the failure is systematic in nature and is experienced by a large number of owners of the product. When the product fails it is rendered completely useless and repairs are prohibitively expensive.

Its the backlight inverter board. i just fixed my sanyo DP32746 myself in 1/2 hour. researching here, i found moniserv online store,i found the part (heres the link) http://www.lcdparts.net/LCDTVInverterdetail.aspx?InverterOriginal=VIT71008.60 they are in san francisco, and i happen to live in s.f. so i went there in person and picked up the board ,it was $179.99 + tax got home switched it out myself with a philips head screwdriver and a small nut driver .i dont have any special training or skills and it was an easy fix . sanyo were total **** about this problem i took a chance on doing the fix myself and im glad i did . good luck.

The problem is not in the panels themself, its the backlight inverter. Parts 62.70 from Sanyo.

I fall in the same boat i've had this tv a year and a half and all of a sudden the screen is black. We need to get together as a group and force a recall on these televisions. I feel I've been "taken" as a customer. If Sanyo feels any obligation to their paying customers they would take innitiative immediately. Somehow I think that won't happen. What a surprise. Thanks for a piece of garbage Sanyo, nothing like wasting hard earned money. Should've bought a Sony huh.

I would strongly suggest that people who are having problems with this tv and there appear to be many, submit a complaint to the BBB. It takes time and is a hassle but Sanyo needs to know the quality of their product stinks. https://odr.bbb.org/odrweb/public/ComplaintExport.aspx

I took mine in to the Sanyo authorized repair shop and they found the screen itself was bad. Sanyo sells the new screen for $1100, almost double what I paid for it. The repair tech said they do that intentionally.

Display screen does not show picture

Could be your camera is still working, but some settings are messed up?
You could have turned off the display. In the menu with IMAGE DISP. Is used to save battery power.
Then try making pictures in the mode automatic. Because if you switched to scene like bright sunlight or snow your pictures can be very dark.

Screen is black . camera flashes no photo , trash bin appears

Could be a problem with the LCD display... it is defective. If you turn the unit on, and nothing is displayed in the LCD, not even a menu can be displayed and the > play button does nothing to show your pictures... then it is broken.

My Acer Aspire 5551-2036 wont turn on blue light turns on screen remains black

Does it sound like the laptop booted up except the screen is black? Do you hear the fan running and the hard drive spinning? If so try the steps below.
Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barelysee the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can beany kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vgacable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves yourvideo card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you rebootwithout you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN(Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correctkey for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key willnormally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash lightand nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card isbad.

Turns itself off after 5 seconds of run time. will not stay on, cooling fans work, lights up screen and shows picture, then shuts off. light flash on front right corner.

Either lamp is failing (not covered under any warranty), or the ballast has failed. Or it may be a problem with the power supply, or even the fans... What is the picture next to the flashing light? If it's only the lamp light, then either lamp or ballast, if temp is flashing (the thermometer), it will be fans, temperature sensors, main board or power supply.

You most definately have bad capacitors in the power supply. try and get it repaired as soon as possible, not an expensive repair that iv'e seen.

Display will not come on

Turn your command dial to P or to auto. Press the menu button. The screen should light up with the main menu. If it does not, find the two buttons on your camera that has small green dots beside them. Press both of these buttons together at the same time until the LCD screen flashes on the top of the camera. Now try to access the menu again. If that does not help, call 1-800-nikonux for their 24/7/365 tech help

Okay, I had the same problem exactly.

You can't fix it yourself. I took it to the NEC lab and they changed a card. luckily it was covered by the warranty.
