I have four computers, and I want to add another one, I want it to be my server, coz the specs of this is much higher than my server, what will I do make my additional pc to be my server???
What kind of server do you want it to be? What operating system are you planning on running on it? What services do you want it to provide? How fast is your current network? What kind of load do you expect to be placing on this server? This is just the start of a very long list of questions that need to be answered first. What kind of server do you want it to be? it is a server not a PC, so no sound jacks there. if you do see 3.5mm line out jack green there' then it does have sound. easy no? or optical jack. One can be added, in most or all cases. If you look at the drawing in the manual here, its missing.
note lack of server sound jacks? 3.5mm or the like. /
You can add the vga card just make sure it is compatible for your server board. You would not be able to take an SLI card in put in this server. There are many that will work, again check the expansion card specs on the server and make sure your vga card matches those.
Good Luck
N.I.T.
2 drives indicates they are RAID 1, which are mirrored. 2 x 36GB = 36GB. This is an industry standard config. If you make any changes you will lose the array making it RAID 0 (no RAID - no longer hot swap), and or the complete loss of OS / data.
Instead make another logical drive for data storage. You need three or four drives to set up as RAID 5, again an industry standard config.
first you need to setup the roles in the server, go to the manage server console, ( can be found as a shortcut in the taskbar or under start menu ) then open the console and go to add roles.
1 - add active directory
2 - in the process it will ask you to install the DNS server role ( do it )
3 - after installing the role in the CMD command prompt type DCPROMO
4 - the DC controller installation and setup will beging ( do not do anything during this proccess )
5 - when asked by DC setup to choose what type of domain functionality level do the following
1 - windows 2003 ( this is for compatibility for windows server running 2003 and XP machines )
2 - Windows Server 2008 ( at this point nothing lower than XP can be added to the DC of course domain functionalities will increase - Only other 2008 server domain controller can be added and cluster migration from server 2003 to 2008 is not supported. )
3 - Windows Server 2008 R2 ( at this point only machines running Vista and 7 can be added to domain - windows xp is no longer supported. All the functionalities of the domain controller are available)
keep in mind once you promote the domain controller to a higher level it can't be brouht to a lower level.
once active directory is installed restart you server and the you should be able to add the clients pc or laptos to the DC example
- right click over my computer icon - click on properties - computer name - change the computer from workgroup to domain - type your FQDN ( fully qualified domain name) example: mynetwork.local or mysite.com - apply changes and restart - your computer will be part of the domain next time system boots up.
Check the specs of your laptop regarding the memory. If the new memory that you installed is compatible with your laptop or not.
Example: If your laptop handles like DDR 200 and you did installed DDR 300 or above with the limit or specs of your laptop, then it will coz some harm on your computer.
Try to review and check the specs of your laptop right away so that you can refund or exchange your memory into a compatible one. Thank you.
