Question about Garmin GPSMAP 76 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Apparent Datum shift but still selected to same datum.

While setting up a charting program noticed the position indicated on the chart was about 1/2 mile off although the lat/long readings correlated to another GPS which displayed correct position on the chart as read on a computer.  The waypoints also are now plotted off of position by the same anount.  The datum selected did not shift as it is WGS84.  Another sailor said he had the same problem at one time and had to replace the GPS.  What gives?

If your software is less than v4.00 then download this update:

GPSMAP 76 Ver. 4.00 as of Nov 29, 2006

If that doesn't work it may be necessary to do a master reset.

What is normal blood pressure

hi pete.
Follow a healthy lifestyle to keep it at this level. More than 120 over 80 and less than 140 over 90 (120/80-140/90): You have a normal blood pressure reading but it is a little higher than it should be, and you should try to lower it.

The 4X4 system on your vehicle is computer controlled , GEM module . generic electronic module . The four wheel drive mode switch is a low voltage input to the GEM module . The GEM energizes relay's to control the mode as depicted by input from the mode switch an torque on demand relay an someother inputs . Probably has DTC - diagnostic trouble codes stored in the GEM module .

I have a garmin gps72 but now i have move to other country first i was in india and now i am in saudi arabia when i put the coordinates its showing in many kilometers

You need to find what Map Datum your map is using, it should be printed in the margin or the title of the map. Then you need to set the Map Datum the same value in the GPS 72 (Main menu, Location Tab). Most modern maps and charts use WGS84 but I wouldn't know for Saudi Arabia.

My map on my garmine 60csx doesnt line up with the actual locations

The most common cause of consistent offset is DATUM selection. The DATUM was likely set to WGS84 at the time of recording then viewed later in NAD27, or vice versa.

Geocaching.com uses WGS84. The USGS generally uses NAD27

Also see this Garmin page. The DATUM is set under Settings | System if I recall correctly.

You shouldn't have to connect to a computer. I don't have an OS map in front of me but I'm guessing they use UTM with a WGS 84 datum (if the map was produced after 1984 that is). Got to the Setup page then select Units. Change Position Frmt to UTM/UPS and Map Datum to WGS 84.

Cache memory

A cache is a temporary storage area where frequently accessed data can be stored for rapid access. Once the data is stored in the cache, future use can be made by accessing the cached copy rather than re-fetching or recomputing the original data, so that the average access time is shorter. Cache, therefore, helps expedite data access that the CPU would otherwise need to fetch from main memory.

A cache is a block of memory for temporary storage of data likely to be used again. The CPU and hard drive frequently use a cache, as do web browsers and web servers.

A cache is made up of a pool of entries. Each entry has a datum (a nugget of data) which is a copy of the datum in some backing store. Each entry also has a tag, which specifies the identity of the datum in the backing store of which the entry is a copy.

When the cache client (a CPU, web browser, operating system) wishes to access a datum presumably in the backing store, it first checks the cache. If an entry can be found with a tag matching that of the desired datum, the datum in the entry is used instead. This situation is known as a cache hit. So, for example, a web browser program might check its local cache on disk to see if it has a local copy of the contents of a web page at a particular URL. In this example, the URL is the tag, and the contents of the web page is the datum. The percentage of accesses that result in cache hits is known as the hit rate or hit ratio of the cache.

The advantage of cache memory is that the CPU does not have to use the motherboard’s system bus for data transfer. Whenever data must be passed through the system bus, the data transfer speed slows to the motherboard’s capability. The CPU can process data much faster by avoiding the bottleneck created by the system bus
