Adding sata HDD

external / internally?

The chipset doesn't support Serial ATA so Soltek has added a Promise PDC20376 controller to provide Serial ATA Raid.

if you dont wish to send the hard drive back get usb external box which can support SATA drives

Installing windows on SATA HDD

That happens because the BIOS uses a SATA controller that is not included in Windows XP install disk.

Usually you can solve the problem going to BIOS settings and changing SATA/RAID settings.Check your BIOS settings, and disable SATA RAID mode. This is done in different ways depending on the BIOS.

On HP/Compaq computers for example you press F2 on startup to enter BIOS, then disable SATA mode on bios settings.
On other makes the procedure can be slightly different.

Another way to fix the problem, is by creating your own XP setup disk with SATA drivers included, see:

Cant find my SATA HDD

Yes - find the chipset for the motherboard - go on intel website for that chipset - download the utility for F6 use [sata driver or raid controller] put these files on floppy or USB key - boot motherboard and when it says press F6 to instal SCSI or other drivers press F6 - the software will ask where the files are - use the correct file and carry on running the windows installation. This time your sata hard drive will be recognised and you can complete loading windows.

Please rate my assistance - thank you.

SATA Hard Drive(s) problem with Soltek SL-K8AV2-RL Motherboard

You must go to the motherboard manufacturers website (or it may possibly be on the CD that came with the board), and get the SATA drivers for windows to create a diskette (yes, a 3.5" floppy disk). When you first enter the windows setup screen at the bottom a message appears about hitting F6 to load 3rd party drivers, you have to do this. After a while a screen will show up and ask you for the drivers. Put in the floppy and hit S, then it should come up with a list of drivers allowing you to select the right one. Windows XP will ONLY look on the "A" drive for these drivers. Hope this helps
