My Palm tungsten E2 hand held PDA is totally frozen and locked up

My unit became non functional when I downloaded too many pictures into it thus locking it up totally. I can turn it on but there is no response whatsoever when I touch a key or the screen.

It also will not turn off. I have to let the battery weaken enough that it automatically shuts down. In short it is completely non responsive to anything I do when trying to boot it up.

The unit is nearly new and has not been damaged or abused at all.

Thanks for the info above. I did exactly what you suggested and here is what came up on my screen:

    Fatal Alert

    MemoryMgr.c Line:3732

    NULL handle

Where can I go from here?

  • kredmo May 28, 2009

Thanks, I did in fact do the process again and it did "unfreeze" my E2. I was holding down the reset button on the back while holding down the power button. I only needed to hold down the power button while quickly touching and releasing the reset button. I indexed up on my 5 way pad and presto the unit opened back up.

I couldn't have done this without your intitial suggestion and final implentation of the process. Thanks very much for your response. I hope this will help others as they read it.

Best thing to do here is to remove any memory cards etc.. and do a hard reset - seems like soft reset will or has not worked...

Press and hold the power button - keep it pressed and gently press the reset button on the back of the handheld.
Wait for the Palm Powered logo to appear and release the power button.
You should get a message warning about erasing all data. Press up on your 5-way navigator to reset.

This will erase all data inlcuding user information from the device, but synchronizing should get it all back - but you will loose anything that was not recently sync'd

good luck

Did you get the error after the logo appeared again or was it as soon as you pressed the up button? This and similar errors are usually as a result of some corrupt software or files. but the fact that yours is not even booting up at all may be hardware problem.

If you have a memory card for the device, put it in and try the hard reset again.

Failing that try performing the same steps but this time do not press up, and see if the soft reset does anything. (even trying another hard reset afterwards if no joy).

Other than that I can only assume there is an actual memory problem.

My computer crashed. I have a backup of all my Palm files but am having trouble recovering them. Does anyone have instructions on how to restore backup files on a Palm Tungsten E2?

Hello.

Palm backups are located in the following directory: C:\Program Files\Palm\username>\ED\Backup\

When you HotSync a PDA that has undergone a hard reset, HotSync will compare the two devices. When it sees that the PDA is empty, it will attempt to reload any backup that exists on the PC. Once this data is reloaded, the PDA will ask to do a soft reset. This is simply a restart of the device and doesn't affect any of the newly installed data. This returns the PDA to working order, with all the data and programs functioning as they were before.

Hope this resolves your problem.

HotSync problem:connection could not be

After you change the battery you need to do a hard reset. This will erase all the info in your pda so you want to make sure you have it all backed up on the palm desktop To do a hard reset follow these steps:

1. Hold down the power button.
2 While holding down the power button, use the tip of the stylus and inset it into the hole in the back of your pda and gently press and release the reset button in the back of your pda.
3. When you see the message that warns you about erasing all of the info on your hand held select continue.
4. When prompted follow the online directions to align the screen. After that you will want to do another hot sync. Best wishes.

Palm tungsten E2

As the previous responder said, the Tungsten E2 cannot read cards over 1 GB. However, there is a wonderful solution available at PalmPowerups.com called PowerSDHC. This wonderful little driver will enable the E2 to read cards of any size! At $20.95, it's a bargain. I installed it on my E2 and now I use an 8 GB SDHC chip!
