Question about Inland Radio Communications

Open Question

Raspy sound when microphone and headset connects, headset sound quality fine without mic.

When i plug in my speaker and my microphone into the computer the sound becomes raspy and very difficult to hear. When i plug in only the speaker headphones, the sound quality is perfect. The problem only exists when i plug in the microphone pink plug connected with the speaker headphones. Can someone please help :]

SOURCE: Can't deactivate headset

Did you check the connector on the bottom of your phone ? If theres any greenish stuff (oxidation) on the connectors/pins, there's your problem. This occurs if the connector has been exposed to moisture. If this is the case you can try to clean off as much as you can and it might correct the problem. But if this doesn´t work, the problem might be inside your phone. If you're up for it, you can take it apart yourself and try to clean the inside of your connector. If youre not up for it, or the connector is clean, take the phone down to your local service-center and have them take a look at it.

SOURCE: Bad Microphone Feedback / Drowning Backround Sound

It's the fact that people say it loud and so your mic picks it up out of the reciever and plays it again and then the same happens to other people and then it continues on and on. Also it could be doing this because the sound bounces off the Tv if your close to it.

Get yourself a great little gadget called iMic. It's a usb connector that adapts to let you used your headset mic and the mac system os will recognize it very well. Works good .
Costs about 24 bucks or so..

you will have to uninstall your audio device, and uninstall SKYPE and re install the audio device and don't re install SKYPE, you can do this by going to add or remove programs, and remove SKYPE first and unplug u r headset and mic, and after removing skype you can reboot the computer, and sometimes the conflict is resolved, otherwise then go into your device manager in system manager and find audio devices, unistall the driver or Update the driver, and reinstall it and the reboot, that should take care of the problem.

Feedback is a sharp, loud noise that can come through the earphones of a headset unexpectedly---it occurs when the headset is getting sound (feed) from someone else speaking or playing music into a microphone. This sound can create a dangerous situation for someone who is operating expensive equipment or flying a plane at the time since it can disable hearing temporarily.
If you experience feedback often, it could also lead to serious hearing problems.

Mic Too Close to the Speaker or Volume Too High
The main cause of a feedback sound in a headset is proximity to a speaker. If a person holding a microphone on the other end gets too close to a speaker, it creates a loop of re-amplified sound that results in the loud, screeching noise. When the volume on the other party's microphone is too high, it is more vulnerable to picking up unwanted noise and feedback from speakers and sound output devices in the room. So make sure that you ask the other party to turn down the microphone to a normal level and stay far from speakers. b> Two Microphones Gathering Same Sound b> When the other party places two microphones too close to each other, it could cause feedback. When positioned toward the sound source (such as a person speaking) the microphones will both pick up the same audio and compete with each other when creating the output of sound, causing a sharp noise in your headset. This problem, called acoustic phase interference, is resolved by simply ensuring that the other party uses one microphone at a time. Poor-Quality Headset or Microphone b> One common cause of feedback is simply a poor-quality headset or microphone. Most modern headsets and microphones have noise-canceling features that manage and kill feedback before it has a chance to occur. These noise-canceling headsets are essential for pilots and aviation crew members. If you hear sudden feedback that is strong enough to hurt your ears, the headset or microphone is simply not properly equipped to actively cancel that unwanted noise before it hits your ears. Buy a higher-quality noise-canceling headset to manage the feedback noise when you're going about your tasks. Hope this helps.

Why do I only hear static


Hi Cathy.. it sounds like you might be connected to the wrong jacks instead of the output that the headphones need.

Most high quality stereo headphones have a single 1/4" stereo plug that would readily plug into a 1/4" jack on the front of the stereo labeled "PHONES" or HEADPHONES".

Many lower quality "computer headphones" or headsets have two 1/8" plugs. One is often black or red and is for an included microphone that may be a boom type (shown below) connected to one of the speakers or an "in-line" type built into the cord itself. The headphone speakers in the headset get their signal from the other plug - which is usually green; but could be any color really. There should be 3 metal parts on the stereo headphone plug. The tip, the middle ring and the bottom ring. Many times the mic is mono (not stereo) and only has only a tip and a bottom ring on the plug. You can see stereo headphone and microphone plugs he picture below:

Your Yamaha stereo will probably NOT have 1/8" jacks to directly plug the headphone into. You can buy an adapter that you would plug your headphones into and then plug the adapter into the 1/4" jack on the stereo. One is pictured below:

This camera is without a microphone or I don't


If you have a laptop you can use the built-in mic and speakers
If its a desk top you will have to buy speakers and a mic.
Maybe better to have a headset ( headphones and mic ) to prevent 'feedback' / echo and some privacy

How do I connect a mike headset to a Dell Dimension 3000?


Does your headset have two plugs? One will plug into the mic jack that would be your Microphone. The ear part plugs into your sound out or speaker out.

On a PC with external speakers and also a headset with microphone. Windows XP is configured so that standard audio are external speakers and standard microphone is the headset. Skype is configured to use the headset for audio in and out.

This way one can listen to sound from the PC and from MP3 players through external speakers and if there is a call to make or take, this is going through the headset.

But now there is the problem that the noise level for the headset is too low. Increasing volume has no effect on the headset, it only affects the external speaker's volume.

Now the solution: Going to the control panel and opening the sound setting, go to the audio tab. The external speakers are selected as default. Just temporarily select the headset and then click on volume just below. You can now set the volume for the headset, click OK and click cancel (!!!) on the sound control dialog box. This way the external speakers remain as default output.



Skype-->Tools -> Options -->Sound Devices-->audio device/USB/etc Audio Device (do NOT use windows default device)
You can also tick the ring pc speaker check box as this is a good backup to alert you even
if the main speakers are off or turned down.

Windows:
Start-->Control panel-->Sound and Audio devices
On the audio tab set the default playback device to your main soundcard(AC97/Audio-chip/add-on-adapter), etc.
Your installed audio device must be present there.
If not, reinstall audio device

1. Audio settings, in Windows and Skype

XP: Windows Control Panel / Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices / Sounds & Audio Devices
or Right-click speaker icon in system tray and select "Adjust Audio Properties"

Volume / Device Volume: Make sure “Mute” is NOT checked in this window.
Volume / Device Volume / Advanced: If there is no “Microphone” section in this window, go to Options / Properties and check “Microphone” in the “Playback” list. Then make sure “Mute” IS checked in this window

Audio / Sound Playback: Your on board sound/Sound Card
Audio / Sound Recording: Your on board sound/Sound Card
Audio / Sound Recording / Volume: Make sure "Microphone" is selected and the volume slider is at the center or higher
Audio / Sound Recording / Volume / Advanced: If “Microphone Boost” or “20db Boost” is present, select it


Vista: Windows Control Panel / Hardware and Sound / Sound / Manage Audio Devices
or Right-click speaker icon in system tray and select "Playback devices"

Playback: Your speakers or on board sound/Sound Card must appear in this list, and must show “Working”
Playback: Select your speakers or on board sound/Sound Card, then click “Set Default”
Playback / Properties / General: Device Usage: “Use this device (enable)”
Playback / Properties / Levels: “Mute” is not on, volume slider in the middle

Recording: Your Microphone or on board sound/Sound card must appear in this list, and must show “Working”

Recording / Properties / Custom: If “Microphone Boost” is present, select it.

Recording / Properties / Levels: If there is a “Mute” button, it must not be on

Skype / Tools / Options / Audio Settings:

Microphone: Your headset/mic or USB device or Web cam mic, as you prefer
Speakers: Your headset, USB device or speakers, as you prefer
Ringing: VoIPVoice USB Phone or on board sound/Sound Card; also tick Ring PC speaker

Note: The audio devices you want to use MUST be present in these Skype device lists. If they are not, check the device connections and driver installations again.

2. Microphone and Speaker connections

Check if your mic (pink) and speaker (lime) jacks are in the proper sockets (it is easy to reverse them) and fully inserted (they sometimes stick only partially inserted)
If your microphone or headset has a “Mute” switch, make sure it is not on
If your speakers or headset has a volume control, make sure it is turned up
For test only you can use an earphone instead of microphone (really)! Just unplug the microphone, plug the earphone into the microphone jack, and talk into your earphones. (I know it sounds silly, but it might tell you if your microphone is defective)
A standard microphone plugged into Line In will NOT work.

3. Check audio in Windows.

XP: Start / All Programs / Accessories / Entertainment / Sound Recorder

Vista: Start [Orb] / All Programs / Accessories / Sound Recorder

Make a short recording with the microphone; you should see the level meters moving as you speak. On Windows XP, you can then play back what you recorded.

4. Once done, test with Skype Test Call (echo123).

If your headphones have a single plug you cannot plug these into a regular speaker connection or headphone connction and get mic and sound, you will need a headset that has 2 separate plugs (one for Mic and one for headphone) or a splitter you can get a radio shack. Most headsets have only one plug and there are connections for both the mic and the headphones on this plug, but the headphone connection on the computer has only connections for the headphone and therefore cannot detect the microphone.
