SOURCE: will a Linotype Hell Ultra 2 Saphir run on a pC?

Yes. Just got mine running on Windows ME. Problem is getting the SCSI set up. Once you get that done, I used Vuescan (http://www.hamrick.com/) and it works. Slow, but functional. I have yet to get scans of the full scanner screen (10 x 14 inches). But 8 x 10 is working fine.

Its on but wont scan

Check the rear right hand side of the scanner and make sure the scan head is not in the locked position. This is used to lock the scanner head during transport without damaging the scanning head.

If this is not the case, have you load the driver for the unit and did you check Windows Control Panel - Scanners/Cameras to verify it is there and recognized by the system. If not there you have a communication problem, if it is there, test it from there.

My lexmark x6170 keeps saying unluck scanner but would not unluck any advice.

I'm not familiar with this model/printer scanner, but some new scanners have a slide lock that locks the scanner head to prevent movement/damage during transportation.
Check the printer/scanner for this lock.

Scanner will not scan, says it is in locked position.

The locking tab protects the scanner's scan head by holding it securely in position. Lock the scanner when transporting it from one location to another, but always remember to unlock it before scanning. The scanner will not scan when locked

Looking the bottom, upside-down, with the back/bottom (power cord side) down. The lock is in the upper right corner. It is a slide style tab. Move up to unlock the bed.
Look on the users installation guide page 7 for illustration.

Hi I have just purchased a Samsung CLX- 3185 Colour printer, scanner and copier and the screen states ' Scanner Locked'

The scanner may have a locking lever that locks the scanner head so you can transport it without damaging the scanner head.
Locate the locking lever and unlock the scanner head.

While started the scanner it give sound like something stuck in side the roller and scanner stop working.

Scanners have a safety lock that protects the scanning head from damage by holding it in place during transport.

Some scanners have a sort of a slider switch, that locks the head. Others have a protruding "pushbutton" on the bottom of the scanner, and when the scanner is put on a flat, hard surface (desk top), the weight of the scanner pushes that "button" up, releasing the lock.

If you have a swith-type lock, check if it's in open position (usually symbolized by an open padlock).

If it's the automatic "button" type lock, you most probably tried to use the scanner on a non-flat surface, or a soft one (like bed for example); you must put the scanner on a perfectly flat surface to use it.

Good luck, and please come back with a rating/testimonial if helped :)

Scan head is stuck in path and will not reset

I had the same problem. I disconnected the scanner from the PC. restarted my computer. Shook my scanner a little bit while PC was rebooting (or maybe a little slap) and when PC was rebooted), i plugged my scanner back and it recalibrated automatically.

Scanner has racheting noise and red light stays

This noise is caused by the transport lock. Power the scanner off. Lock and unlock the transport lock a few times and then leave it in the unlocked position again and power on.

My scanner could not start after transporting it without locking. SOME BODY LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE MOTOR. HOW CAN I GET THE MOTOR.

Possibly the lock button got moved in handling - look under the front of the scanner for a small button that moves sideways - it will have a lock and unlock position. It may have moved to the lock position - that prevents the head from moving.

My printer will not print. It is a Hewlett-Packard all in one psc 2175v model, it just comes on and makes a clicking sound and then it reads, scanner failure and recommends that I turn it off and then on...

On some models there is a scanner head lock to keep the scanner head from moving around and breaking when transporting. Check to make sure it's not in the lock mode.
