Whirlpool gold top load washer (7 months old) won't agitate or spin

During rinse cycle my husband inadvertantly stopped machine and then restarted and it immediately started to empty and made a strange noise and would not spin. Afterwards I tried several water levels, cycles ,etc and could not get it to agitate or spin. Fills and drains with no problems. Can we fix this or is he in big trouble?

Thank you , I have the receipt and will call Sears tomorrow. We started to pull the back off but decided it was a bigger job than we wanted to tackle.

My washer drum is not spinning at the end of the cycle, but the water appears to empty out. The coupler was replaced once by me a while ago, but does not appear to be broken... What else could it be??

I had the same situation (the spin cycle does not work) as zipper0923, but my machine (whirlpool gold) is not under
warranty at all. Appreciated if you or anyone can post how to replace coupler.
    Thanks a million.

It sounds like the motor drive coupler has broken. This means the motor is no longer turning the gearcase, but it is turning the pump. It will be repaired under warranty if it is only 7 months old. You should have a full one year warranty on the washer. If not, he can probably fix it, but it will need a new coupler. He can tilt the machine back and see the coupler between the motor and transmission from underneath. I can walk you through replacing it if you want, but I wouldn't recommend it if it is still under warranty. There could possibly be something more major wrong that has caused it to break and some of the factory servicers are real picky about customers working on a machine under warranty. If you need it running tonight, he may be in trouble.

Post back if you need further help or have more questions.

Loud banging noise during rinse

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the rinse or spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary. This will solve your problem.

Aeg 72630 update will not rinse during rinse cycle

If the drain lines were plugged, there may have been enough pressure on the pump to fault out. Make sure the sewer line is completely open, as well as the lines at the pump.
