Thank you for your advice. I opened up the back of the tv and the red and blue worked but the green wouldn't go on all thew way. How complicated and how expensive is it to repair the green gun? is it something i could go buy something for, uninstall and install myself?

It is one of two things the picture tube is bad and the green emission is very low or the green gun is open, the second possibility is the video driver or output is shorted on the video board "plugged in the back of the picture tube"
HI, thank you for visit fixya.
Common problem on this set .
Picture tube liquid is dirty.
Mostly in crt green and crt blue.
Do you have electronics skills?. If so, open the TV ( back cover), you will see green, blue and red gun. After turn on your tv, select any channel or video signal, cover with piece a paper two guns at the top ( any), and see how look the picture in the front, try one at time, ( press menu on remote control and see leters-clear). I am sure the green and blue will be no clear. all the time red tube is fine.
REPLACE COOLANT LIQUID PROJECTION ( solution).
I will be here for any quetions.
Thank you
Red color gun has failed, which will make the picture over saturated with the other two colors(blue, green) the bad news is the three color guns need to be replace in a set(all at the same time) because if you only replace the red it will over saturate the older blue, green guns then your picture will be mostly red.Unfortunently in most cases it's not worth the investment, better off to purchase a new tv. Good luck !
Several failures can cause a red picture but it sounds like if you are connected from the source with component video cables(red, blue, green)you may just have a bad cable, but you may have had a blue and/ or green projection gun failure, which would cause the red gun to over power the other colors(blue/green), if this is the case definently not worth the cost to repair, you have to replace all three guns at the same time costing $500+ to repair, invest that towards a nice new LCD panel TV. Good luck !
If your picures are all purple it means that the green colour is missing. TV colour is made up by mixing Red, Green & Blue. Removing Green leaving Red & Blue makes purple. Study the green colour circuit for a fault and confirm that the green gun inside the tube is working.
Did you try any adjustments on your own? It looks like the Blue output Gun is not working. Most likely the Blue Output Transistor is blown. Nothing you can do, unless you know Solid State Electronic. I advice that you seek professional help.
