DVD drawer opening when it shouldn't!

The problem has just manifested itself after 6+ years of faultless service. When the unit is switched on, the DVD drawer opens. When I press the button to open/close the drawer in order to close it, it closes momentarily and then opens again. I have tried turning it off and then on again at mains but the problem persists. I can't seem to switch it off with the drawer closed without someone to help, i.e. I hold the drawer shut while the power is turned off. Any solutions?

With the price of dvd players and yours bieng 6 years plus it make more sense to just buy a new one.

Testimonial: "Thing is, the DVD player is only a small part of the unit. It has several other functions, some of which remain unused from brand new. The main part of course is that it is "the" sound system for the TV. It is primarily a high quality 5.1 Surround Sound Home Theatre System, this part works perfectly. It is a shame that Panasonic have not developed a system of HDMI daisy chaining, where all of the units have a separate autonomous function so if it develops a fault, you only replace that part of the system. Making a single unit an all singing and dancing multi-function device is not cost effective to the end user when something like what has happened to me occurs."

When dvd is inserted "read" comes up on screen on

Not a lot to go on...
I would expect the unit says read for a while, then opens the drawer. This is an optic issue. Optics are $$$. If the drawer opens almost immediately, it is likely the drive's drawer sense switch needs cleaning.

DISC DRAWER WILL NOT OPEN

First, start with power cycling the player. Turn off the player and disconnect the power cord from the wall socket. Leave it unplug for about 5 minutes. Turn the player back on and try to open the drawer.

If same problem occur, then follow the steps below:

1. Turn off your DVD player. You do not want to risk electrical shock while working with it.

2. Locate your DVD player's manual Eject button. It is usually a small hole located underneath the DVD drawer.

3. Insert a stiff wire-such as a paperclip or safety pin-into the hole. Push gently and the drawer should open partway. Gently pull the drawer the rest of the way open.

4. Remove the DVD and see if there is a problem with it. Most DVD player drawers get stuck when a DVD is warped or the label is starting to peel. If the DVD is warped, discard it. If the label is peeling, remove the label.

5. Turn your DVD player back on. If it gets stuck again on a different DVD, then the problem may be with your DVD player rather than with your DVDs.

Good luck!

Panasonic dmres30v unable to open dvd drawer led displaying u99 and cant remove

Press the power button on the main unit to switch the unit to standby. When the unit is in standby , press the power button again on the main unit to turn it on. If the unit doesn’t switch to standby, press and hold the power button on the main unit for about 10 seconds to forcibly switch it to standby.

To open the drawer, press and hold STOP and CH UP buttons on the main unit at the same time for about 5 seconds.

Dvd drawer will not open

Manually open the tray. It's possible that you have a dvd stuck in the drawer because it wasn't fully seated. Look at at the front of the drive and you will see a tiny hole. Take a paper clip or safety pin, stick it in the hole and push. You will see that the drawer will pop out and you can retrieve your stuck dvd. Thanks for using fixya.com

Go Video VCR/DVD Combo DVD drawer won't open

There are drive gears in the unit and it should not be making a whirring noise. It usually ejects in a second, and thats all of the noise you should hear. There are no belts, or at least not in that portion of the transport. Its probably a plastic gear that has worn down from years of use, or broken from someone trying to force it open.

With the prices of DVD players these days you would not want to have it serviced assuming it is out of warranty. Service is going to cost upwards of 80+parts, whereas I saw a DVD player the other day in Wall mart for 32.00.

Best of luck and Happy New year!

Dvd recorder /vcr combo

possibly what has happened is the disk is not lying flat in the drawer, and is jamming as you try to remove, otherwise it could be a mechanical failure of the tray itself.

for the first you could try turning the unit upsidown, shake gently, and then put the right side up and try to eject drawer, if there are any rattling noises when doing this it may be that the disk failed in the drawer(broken into pieces),

if this does not help , you may need to dissasemble your DVD drive to recover your disk and reset the drive mechanism. only do this if your machine is out of warranty

The drawer on the unit won't open.

When the DVD player is plugged into power and switched on, and won't power up (nothing shows up in the front display panel), the power supply unit in the DVD is blown. the noise that player made was probably a capacitor going off. You will have to get the unit repaired.

DVD PLAYER TROUBLES

Hello, There are really only things that can cause that problem, either the microswitch inside has failed which tells the processor that the drawer has closed, or the processor itself has failed. If you have some experience working on electronics, you can open the unit and see if the drawer is contacting the switch, and if so meter the switch to see if it has gone bad, otherwise, I would recommend replacing it, as you can do some home laser surgery to yourself if you open the unit and look at the laser. We have bought Durabrand sold at Walmart, it is normally not expensive to replace, and actually going by the one I bought my son, it has held up well. Good luck, I hope the info helps.
