Scan error try scan from computer or see documentation Press ok!!!

There are two ways to make your printer scan.

You can tell it to scan by pressing the keys on the front of the printer

OR

You can tell it to scan by using the software that came with your printer that is installed in your computer.

Your error message is saying that you are trying to scan by pressing the button on your printer and you have not set up this option yet. It is saying to check your documentation for instructions on how to set up this option if you wish to use it or try scanning using the software in your computer instead.

Go ahead and press "ok", if you have not done so already to clear the print que.

Then what I need to know from you is which option above do you want to use to initiate a scan from your printer?

In order to scan using the keys on your printer, you need to have an application (software) installed on your computer that it can recognize and send the image to. The printer will send the image to just about any graphics or photo editing software and others like Microsoft Word, or the photosmart software that came on your driver disk.

Make sure you have one or more of the above software titles installed on your computer, then press the "scan" button on the printer. The first time you set it up, you will see a message that says something similar to "gathering applications list" please wait. That means that your printer is connecting to your computer and checking for software that it recognizes and will scan to. Once a program is located it will then ask you where you want to send the image to and give you a list of acceptable applications it found installed. You use the up and down arrow keys on the printers keyboard to scroll the list until you see the one you wish to use then press the "ok" or "enter" key. Then just follow the prompts on your printers display and it will scan and send the image to your computer screen.

Using the keys on the printer is tougher to learn then scanning through the software on your pc.

If you want to try scanning by using the software, follow these instructions below:

Install the software that came with your printer on the driver installation disk. If you don't have the software or disk you can download a copy of the program from HP's website (http://www.hp.com). Look for downloads and then enter your printer make and model and follow the instructions to download and install on your pc.

Once the software is installed, turn on your printer and insert the document or photo you want to scan. Then open the program on your pc and click on the "scan" option (choose scan document, or scan picture or scan mixed ect.).

The pc will send the scan command to your printer, it will warm up and then send a copy of the image to your computer screen and ask if it is acceptable. If it is, choose "accept" and it will save a copy of the image file on your computer and stop. Double click on the image to open it for editing ect. Once you are happy with the finished product, click on "file" and then choose "save as" and pick a place that you will remember for easy locating then name the image and close it.

If you have any questions or encounter problems with the instructions above, just come back to this question and send me your concers through the "comment" section and I will help you solve this.

Click on the "Scan" option

Ocr missing in folder. I can not scan text as PDF files

The Lexmark OCR scan software is available in the installation disk. Just insert the disk in your computer and execute the driver to install the software. It's not available for online download. If you lost the disk, contact Lexmark technical support. Thanks.

I lost my lexmark x7170 software to redown load it again cos i couldnt fix the scanner.how to do that?

Here's the link for the available Lexmark X7170 drivers: http://bit.ly/cqLdux. Click on the drop-downs found below the page to choose the version of your computer's operating system. Download the correct driver, execute the file and follow the instructions in the software. If your computer will look for the Lexmark OCR scan software when you try scanning, you will be needing the printer installation disk. If that's the case, I suggest you contact Lexmark technical support for assistance.

I had the same problem, found out that you should not install the disk that came with the printer. If you do it won't scan. The drivers are already in Mac OSX. You have to uninstall whatever you installed...throw the disk away. To scan go to System Preferences, click printer, then scanner button and it works. Hope this helps!

The "Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2" disk that it is prompting you for came with your computer itself, not the printer. It's most likely labelled "Setup" or "restore" disk - just put it in the drive when prompted and you should be all set!
