There is a step left out of the repair instructions on the website/device manager itself: Make sure you back up all songs on the GoGear before attempting this solution. 1) Back up all files on the GoGear 2) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips) 3) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button 4) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new Now you can do the firmware upgrade that will prevent this problem from occuring in the future. Open up Philips Device Manager and click the Update tab. This problem was caused because most GoGear's were designed for Windows XP with Media Player 10 (which is no longer the latest standard). -Tha Mp3 Doctor

I had the same problem with my GPX mp3 MW249S. I went to the internet and downloaded MP3 Repair Tool 1.5.2 software from www.free-codecs.com and l managed to fix the problem.
Make sure that there is available memory. If there is, then you will need to do a firmware upgrade and reload the songs onto the player. If you already have the latest firmware, then you will need to reformat the player either in Windows Media Player or the computer. If that fails, use the repair function in the Philips Device Manager.
i solved my problem, i think, by reformatting the player. the iriver tech help offered several methods to reformat, which didn't work. but this did: settings,--advanced,--format device. this will delete everything on the player, but now it can sync successfully.
I've had the same problem, an it started when I formatted the player's flash memory to NTFS, an then realised it needed to be back in FAT(Win95) format for the mp3 player to play the songs. But after doing that, sometimes it'll mess up an the song number changes to 826, an the player completely freezes. I have to then take the battery out to restart it. If anyone has schematics, or knows where I can track them down, I would be appreciative, for the RCA lyra M200
