I have an LG rear projection TV: RT-44NA11T The red and blue colours are out of alignment, the red being the most prominent, but it is not consistent across the screen. It is out on the right on the right hand side of the screen, OK in the middle and out on the left on the left hand side. Convergence menu does not rectify this problem. Is this likely to be a lamp issue, some sort of focus problem or other? Can it be fixed by the user? Thanks in advance Noticing that my picture is darker with a tint of red. Mostly around the edges. TV is only 4 years old, and is not even a TV we watch everyday, so hours are very low!
I have a similar problem with an LG (except my red is the one that is fine) and was able to talk to a tech in some detail about it. The tech prefaced by saying that he had done a hundred or so of these with exactly the same issue. This is very common and the life span of rear projection televisions is not great. Having said that, plasmas and LCDs are also limited in life span mostly due to modern high performance gaming machines which shorten the lifespan of monitors both plasma and LCD alike.
From what I have gathered, this is not a problem that you can easliy sort out. (Of course they would say that though) It involves replacing the digital board which means soldering followed by aligning the lamps which requires quote a lot of expertise.
The part itself apparently costs around $200 Australian and the labour will vary for the cost of the technician but I was quoted that the labour was about the same cost as the part.
Not sure if I would call this solved but I hope it has been at least a little helpful.
