Try pushing in a flat screwdriver about 4" from the left edge and right edge on the top lid.  If you can open up a small crack under the lid  (again with a screwdriver) you will be able to see the two clips.  Each about 1" wide and you would push them straight back about 1/4 to 1/2 " to disconnect them from the socket.  For reassembly, just align the lid , then press it down to snap both of the tabs into place.

good luck,

paul

I have a kenmore 80 series dryer. 18 years old. Makes loud buzz when starting and overheats and stops in about ten minutes. I've bypassed thermal fuse and samething happens. I've also cleaned out...

You don't want to bypass the thermal-cutoff. If the thermostat is malfunctioning, it WILL overheat and cause a fire!! For the age of it, I would replace the whole dryer! It's going to cost you more in time than the value of the unit.

What is the model number of your dryer? The number may be located inside the dryer door.

Switch_bypass to dryer door

You will have to take apart the dryer. First UNPLUG IT from the wall. Then pry up the top, gently - it is pressed on with plastic push screws. The top should fold all the way backwards, have something to support it so it doesn't break off. You should be able to see the switch now close to the top, inside the dryer. Unplug both wires then connect them. You can either electrical tape them together or hard wire them. Be sure the wires do not dangle too low as to touch anything. Tape up all connections on the wires. Replace the top, plug in and it should work.

My dryer won't turn on (start button?) The timer works though. It quit working in the middle of a cycle and I'm pretty sure the heat was still working, it just stopped working.

Hello,

Sound`s like a broken drum belt. When the belt break`s on most kenmore/whirlpool dryer`s it prevent`s the unit from starting via a ``kill switch`` located under or next to the belt tensioner/idler pulley.

Since you`ve indicated the timer appear`s to advance/work, it is not the thermal fuse/cut-out.

The other possible fault is in the start button, but that is not very common.

I`d look at the belt. That`s what I`d check first. Hope that help`s.

Good luck and thank`s for visiting fixya.

Kenmore Electric Dryer will not Heat

Define checked everything. Usually when your dryer is not heating but blowing air its one of three things...
1. Thermal fuse in dryer
2. Thermistor in the dryer
3. Heating element in dryer

You need a signal meter with continuity check to accurately test all three componets. Normally the fuse and thermistor are in a set and cost less than 25 bucks. They are easy to replace if you are good with taking things apart. If the element is bad then you need to make sure your lint trap and exhaust hose are clean and kept clean. That is the main cause of the element burning up when it gets lint collected inside the dryer cavity.

In a pinch if the element is bad you can simply find where the metal has broken and try bending the rod so that it touches. The element has to be one solid piece so if there is breaks try and connect them back together until a new one can be purchased.

Please unplug the dryer before doing anything mentioned above.

Hope this helps
