The universal way to turn the webcam on all laptop computers, regardless of the brand and model is by pressing Fn and F5.

Hold Fn down (usually on the left side of the SPACE BAR on the keyboard)
Press F5
Release both keys

You should see the webcam's icon on the lower right hand side. The webcam's icon with a slash on it states that the webcam is OFF. The icon without a slash means that the webcam is ENABLED.

You may have a conflict - try disabling the built in cam
> Start > Control Panel > Classic View > Device Manager
Expand the 'Imaging' Folder and right click on the built in laptop webcam text - select 'Disable'

Lots of problems here with Windows 7 and webcams
If it still gives problems trial it in Compatibility Mode

Right click on the webcam icon on your desktop or the webcam file from 'All Programs' - select 'Properties'
Select the 'Compatibility' tab
Select 'Compatibility Mode'
Use the dropbox to show the OS you have successfully used before
Click OK
Restart your computer

Everything mentioned is reversible so worth a try

How do I get my built in webcam on a msi laptop to work ??

Hi...
I had the same problem.. if you hold down Fn ( button at the bottom left coner ) and F6 together it should detect the webcam.
And later if don't find the webcam icon, click on the icon named- Q-Face that should help you!

How do i turn my web cam on

if its built in..should have the icon for the webcam in the start bar or my computer. if its usb make sure u have the drivers for the damn webcam then install them and click on the icon for the webcam..and DUHHHHHH it works...

Vista does not have a stand-alone feature for Compaq Presario c700 webcam. You need to have another application to use the webcam. Fortunately, I found an application, YouCam, that allows you to take snapshots (and even videos) using the built-in webcam of the laptop.

The web cam is most likley controlled by software in your laptop. if you have "QuickPlay" try openning that program, you will see a Camera Icon . pressing that icon should start your Camera.

Using new Satallite P200-1EE, webcam is not connected message with Yahoo Messenger

I'm using a Toshiba satellite notebook A200, which I faced the same problem like you saying my built- in webcam cannot operate after I clicked on the drop down list from the windows live messenger to have a webcam conversation. Another program is running the webcam at startup. That program is called Camera Assistant Software which is the conflicting software. Therefore I closed this software and I'm able to use my webcam again in my webcam conversation in windows live messenger. I hope this information will help you.Good Luck!
