Open Question

Singer sewing machine model 6012 c

I am going crazy ....  I was sewing a straingt seam and the machine just stopped picking up the top thread , now it won't pick up the bottom thread from the bobbin.  I have changed the needle, refilled the bobbin, rethreaded the machine top and bottom still won't pick up the thread and form a stitch.

HELP PLEASE  !!!!!!!

i have a singer cg-550. i did not know how to sew at all when i got it so a friend set it up and i watched her sew. i used it for a year with no problems, learning as i went. a week ago i was sewing thick, fluffy material and i was "forcing" the fabric through, just a little, and the needle broke. i replaced the needle, quit sewing the fabric, and tried to sew on an old cotton tshirt. the thread from the bobbin was not connecting with the material or the upper thread. and. . . the needle broke again. i made sure i was using the right needle and replaced it, again. i then ran the machine by hand and assessed the problem. the needle was now striking something below the needle plate and the bobbin case. after removing the cover plate and the bobbin case i saw that the needle was striking the circular round-edged "thing" that i think brings the bobbin thread around. it hits only every third pass, or maybe second pass. however, when i turn the wheel (?) on the side away from me, rather than towards me, it does not hit- it just barely grazes the circular round-edged "thing". i think it is the timing something-or-other and i would love to know how to fix it.

SOURCE: Machine will not pick up the bobbin thread.

if your machine's needle threads from front to back, make sure that the flat part of the needle shank points to the rear of the machine. If it threads from left to right, the flat side should face right, etc.

You can download a manual for $10 at www.sewingmanuals.com and it should help you. A couple of suggestions though, is your needle inserted correctly? Flat side facing the rear of the machine, fresh needle? Threaded correctly on top and bobbin area? Is your thread good not too old and the same type in bobbin and top? Did you leave a long enough tail in the bobbin thread? 3-4 inches which you hold with your left hand. Is the thread in the bobbin unwinding the right way? Are you turning the handwheel towards you, not away from you at least two revolutions or until you see the thread loop? Try these suggestions, and I am sure one will work unless your timing is off and it needs professional service.

Why won't either the top or bottom stitches sew? I'm soooo fed up, my machine use to work beautiful. please HeLp!! Thankx, Renee

Sounds like the top thread is not picking up the bobbin thread. If so, be sure to install a brand new needle & check that it is installed facing the correct direction. If it still will not pick up the bobbin thread, then most likely the machine is out of time (which happens easily when the needle hits a pin, a dense seam, or even the needle plate or presser foot). Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

My bobbin thread won't pick up. Its a new machine and everything came attached. followed the instructions and no go.

Generally, this is because the needle is inserted wrong or because it's bent. In the first case, the top of the needle (called the shank) has a flat side-this has to be inserted so it faces the back or away from you.
In the second case, when a bent needle stops the top thread from picking up the bobbin thread. Even if you think your needle is fine, change it to see if this solves the problem.

Top thread doesn't pick up the bobbin thread (Toyota sewing m.)

Hi! This may sound silly, but if you changed your needle and put it in backwards (which is easy to do), the top thread won't pick up the bottom thread. Take your needle out and check the flat side of the needle shank--which way is it facing? With a lot of the newer machines, the flat side goes to the back, but check your manual to make sure.

Let me know if this helps, ok?

Happy Sewing!

Needle will not pick up bobbin threat

Try flipping the bobbin spool so the thread comes off in the other direction.
Forcing means that the needle has been jammed against the sewing plate ant the needle is now out of timing with the bobbin pickup.
