HE5 dryer has no heat - everything else appears to work, tube spins , controls can be set, start. But no heat. Purchased new in early 2008, may be used 2 times / week.

Several reasons this could be. There is a separate fuse for the heating element inside the unit...find it and check it. Second...The element works on a 220v system whereas the spinning and lights work on regular 110. Check the 30 amp breaker in the house. Third, the element is bad and needs to be replaced. There are only 3 or 4 major parts to a dryer. There are easy to repair if you take the time to get the repair manual and study it.

its a trip switch, if its tripping then there is a fault with the element, it is either clogged up or shorting out when it heats up. i would think it needs replacing. becareful with dryers as there have been a lot of beco products over the years.

Electric dryer won't heat

The problem is most likely one of the thermal limit switches/thermostats which is bad -- there could be several of them. Or, it is less likely that it is the heating element or a loose/corroded/broken connection to the heating circuit.

I would call for service -- it would be less expensive than a new dryer.

Dryer gets to hot

Start with the vent, make sure it's not kinked or squished behind the machine and that the outside vent is not clogged with lint. You should feel air blowing freely to the outside.
If the vent is ok, turn the timer to any on position without starting it. Wait 10-20 seconds and then check if there's heat inside the dryer.
If yes, the element has a short and therefore always stays on. Replace it.
If no, run the dryer for a few minutes and listen for the clicking of the relay which cycles the element.
If there is no clicking sound, check the hi limit thermostat & thermal cutoff for continuity and replace if necessary.
If those seem ok, it could be the motor (centrifugal switch inside) or the timer (shorted contact).
Good luck!

If not

Kenmore dryer takes to long to dry

You may have to get inside the exhaust assembly ...somtimes there are lint buildups that occur and cause long drying times. Also make sure you don't have a DUAL heating element model. I had one and only one of the elements worked when I repaired the second one it worked great. Most likely is the exhaust block however. Hope this helps.
