Question about iLO DVD Recorder DVDR05

1 Answer

Our Bose DVD player has always worked fine in inabling us to play our DVDs and display the English subtitles, one morning I watched a DVD and the subtitles appeared accordingly, that night, We could not, not matter what we did, get them to appear on the same DVD I have watched many times!!!!!!!! We follow all the steps on the screen, Enter all the proper entries, to dictate that we want English subtitles, and then go back to menu to start the movie and, NO SUBTITLES! We tried another DVD, this one has to be controlled by going into the SETTINGS mode, to enable the Subtitles to come up, and the command will not take at all, we can't even get into the SETTINGS mode? could our REMOTE have failed? we replaced the batteries, and eveything else works fine while using it! The only thing we CANNOT do is engage any subtitles! We really need some advise here! thanks, SRM

Hi

Please check by going into settings menu whether the Auto Subtitles is set to ON, if still it does not work then you need to reset the unit, for resetting the unit:

  • Turn off the unit.
  • Unplug the Acoustimass module power cord from the outlet for one minute, and then reconnect it. This allows the unit to reset it.

Please see this Bose User Manual for more information.

Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Have no remote for the device.so i have been playing movies manually! how can i take off the captions.

Normally when a DVD is inserted, the subtitles option (if it appears in the on-screen DVD menu) is set to 'OFF' by default, but since you do not have the remote, you cannot access it. Some DVDs have the subtitle/captions enabled at startup, so there is nothing you do can do without the correct remote for this model (which may no longer be available anywhere) and it's even worse if the subtitles are not in English or the audio language is not English or both!

Nice to have a remote (universal one if you can find one which can operate this model) then you can have basic control over it, but I cannot assure you that it will turn subtitle/captions off per disc. Just one of those things - but you can look around for a universal remote (if it has subtitle button) and it might work. Or you can look around at secondhand remote/DVD decks online etc.

Up to you what you decide to do here. If it comes to the crunch, and you can no longer tolerate the subtitles being on all the time with each disc during manual playback, consider replacing the whole player (this is cheaper in the long term) - but only as a last resort, since Blu-Ray players (with DVD playback support) are becoming cheaper to buy. Something to think about later on if necessary.

By the numbers! How do I turn on the closed

there is no closed captions on dvds, you can use subtitles, very similar to closed captions. just load dvd
look into either extra features or subtitles

it would say "english for deaf/hard of hearing." or just plain english subtitle. either way, it works.

Bose lifestyle 48 dvd black and white only

Go to the "Bose" menu screen viewing on your TV (make sure no dvd is in the player) Go to your Video controls and check your output, chances are, if your using the component output your player is set to "S-Video". Should fix the problem. Hope this helps. If it's still not viewing correctly, post a comment and I will help you some more

Line on subtitles

If the lettering on the subtitles or the picture quality are good as always dont worry about the line ,I doubt it will get worse.Try using a DVD cleaner for peace of mind and because you say the DVD is use it a lot.
