I have an asus q200e notebook pc ar5b125 with windows 8. one day it did absolutely nothing. took it to computer guy. bad hard drive. new 500 gig hard drive. worked fine for a month then upgraded to windows 8.1(dunno if thats relevant) and shortly thereafter it did the same thing. nothing when i turned it on. different computer guy, clown, whatever, but i got it back and it was allowing me to log on but it was slow. task manager showed 100% disk usage. now when i power on it does nothing. screen gets a bit brighter but remains black. i think, after some time, if im still watching by chance the asus logo appears but nothing after that. this computer was great at first. i dont download anything. it was strictly for business invoicing and records.

The connections at pins and holes could just be dirty or possibly the solder is broken loose inside the recepticle in the Asus.Latter is most likely.If you're into fixing it,and the soldered connections in receptical are bad,luck to ya friend.Would but be a good unit to upgrade to Windows 8 with an Intel processor and 4Gb RAM,even a 500 GB hard drive.Hmm,may a swell just buy a NEW ONE.I'm kidding.I personally like working on computers.I've kept this 2008 Toshiba running since August 08.Done probably 10 or 12 re-formats,3 different hard drives,went 4GB RAM and back to 2 GB and made no difference in speed.I'm about to retire this one this week and go to the Asus that I found on sale at Staples for $279,with all the fine bells and whistles I spoke of earlier.Have a food day.Regards,Rigger.

If it burnt a new HDD then the problem could lie somewhere on the mobo. If it's still under warranty, i'd suggest RMA. Otherwise, you will have to take it back to the computer repair shop and listen to their suggestions.

When you are in the BIOS see if the HDD is present. If not then it's probably the root cause of the problem because the system has nothing configured to boot to.

Quite commonly on external drives the usb interface will go bad in the external drives the hard drive enclosed is probably functioning ok. Would try a different usb cord just to make sure the cord is not the issue. If still does not work you may need to purchase a new enclosure that will have a new usb interface circuit board with it. If taken in for service they will probably tell you to purchase a new external drive.
Here is a video on recovering data a side from an external drive.Some steps are not necessary if you have access to an ide/sata to usb adapter. These are pretty inexpensive on ebay as well as replacement enclosures.

Yes you can upgrade the hard drive from 80 to 160 GIG SATA for you to have more storage for your computer files....

Check to see if your motherboard has a sata controller on it. The user manual will tell you. You can get a new on on asus.com. If it does support it, you will need sata drivers for it which you can download from the website as well.

If it doesn't work you can add one external by picking up and external drive case for sata controllers. Then all you need is a spare USB 2.0 port. Make sure you get one with a power supply for it because at that size getting 500 gig to work will require extra power to perform properly.

the hard drive you bought is not compatible with your motherboard. I am pretty sure that your board is only compatible with IDE ATA hard drive. you can still use it as external hard drive though.
