Refrigerator and freezer barely get cold.

My mother's refrigerator stopped getting cold about 2 weeks ago. The freezer compartment gets iced up at the rear, and will not freeze, and ice cream melts. The refrigerator compartment barely gets cold, and food spoils. We have adjusted the temperature controls, unplugged it and defrosted it, and restarted it, and the problem remains. The freezer again got iced up, and nothing got very cold. What can we do?? It was bought in 2003.

I have the same problem with a unit that I bought 2 years ago, used. The bottom freezer part works fine, but before going through similar steps as poisondart did, the top fridgeration part just stopped cooling at all. It is at room temperature. Any and all advice would be greatfully appreciated. email: [email protected]

Sounds like the condenser fan may not be running. It is located under the rear of the unit. The coils may be covered with dirt too. Either will cause the problem. If you cannot find the problem you should call a servce tech to look at it.

Model bc121v1w refrigerator not getting cold

Is the freezer still freezing? If it is there is probably an ice blockage at the rear of the freezer compartment in the vent that takes cold air to the upper refrigerator You can defrost the whole thing and restart or remove the back panel of the freezer and defrost the air vent which is directly behind the fan . You will probably have to remove the ice maker which is not hard, then just get a blow dryer and defrost. If your freezer is not cold you have a different problem. If this fixes your problem but it happens again in a week or two either your defrost circut is gone or you have a air leak in the freezer compartment arond the door seal and you are letting too much moist air into the freezer compartment

I have a Matag Refrigerator Model MTB2156DEW. The freezer is located on the top of the fresh food compartment. For approximately a week the refrigerator has been constantly running without cycling. ...

Defrost the unit. The fridge section cannot cool if the freezer is iced over since the fridge gets its cold from the freezer. If you don't have a second fridge use a hair dryer to speed the defrost.

Top freezer quit freezing. Refrigerator works.

Good day,
Yes, the cold weather is the cause.
Your machine is cycled off and on by the thermostat located in the fresh food compartment. When the fresh food compartment is satisfied, it will shut off the entire machine.
Any temperature below 55 degrees will reduce running time until the freezer will not function, or at best poorly.
Engineers designed domestic refrigerators to balance properly between 70 and 95 degrees. It should be in your user manual.

Kenmore elite 596 73503201 no cooling in top compartment

if the freezer is getting cold the problem is due to the cold air from the freezer not getting into the refrigerator. There are several things that can cause this problem. The coils in the freezer icing up and not defrosting properly is one of the things that can cause the refrigerator not to get cold enough. Another problem is the fan that blows the cold air from the freezer compartment into the refrigerator, not working. When the compressor is running open the refrigerator's door and push the switch that makes the light go out. You should hear the fan blowing the cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator, when this switch is pushed in. If the fan is working then you will need to find what is blocking the air flow. Iced up coils are a common problem. The icing problem can be due to a defective defrost timer or something defective in the defrost circuit. Click here for more information. Check for these problems and let me know what you have found.

10 yr old Frigidaire ice maker stopped making ice

try forcing the cycle by manually triggering the cycle a few times. Sometimes you can detach the trip arm or turn the tray by hand by disconnecting it from the gear. There may have been a switch bumped to turn it off or the switch somehow jammed. Maybe check for freeze-up. If there is water in it, it's going somewhere.
