Ignition locked
If the car is parked on a flat surface, and a potential liquid spill has occured in the gear selector, make sure the car is engaged securely in park.
Cut the wheels hard with the steering wheel and see if the key will turn. If not a replacement of a new lock cylinder is needed
Is the car parked with the steering turned tight or on a hill with the wheel turned in such a way as to load the steering? It may be as simple as turning the steering wheel back and forth while turning the key in order to release the steering lock mechanism.
Update to "Hey guys! I have an 06 sonata. The steering wheel has locked itself to the point we can't figure out how to unlock it. Along with the key not being able to turn. Tried numerous things and even to change the switch cylinder can't get the key to turn again. Hopefully someone has experienced this!"
Update!! I figured a way out! If anyone experiences this now I know an easy way didn't have to buy any parts but in the long run it'll make it easier to remove if happens again.
In the red when attached to the column there's 2 anti theft flat screws drilled them and was able to use a flat head on the edge of each screw and used a hammer to unscrew until loose enough to just hand unscrew them.
Then the green circle. There's the ignition lock switch pin. Since I couldn't turn the key at all I drilled that pin completely out and was able to remove that ignition lock switch and reseat it into place. It's such a wack assembly design but if you do it this way you can take that ignition lock switch out anytime. And if you didn't go deep enough to kill the threads where the safety screws were you can just screw in some Allen key bolts. And boom she runs to see another day! This was my problem but hopefully it helps someone else out! Also a locksmith would not help me at all!

hi from uk please try this ? with key removed try gently turning steerwheel to the right if you feel a slight spring in steering ? hold on the spring and insert key it should work and release lockand turn ign on ? if steering is springing on left ? try as above the same method not unusual for steer lock to prevent turning key as the steering even in straight position ? the necessity to gently release load on lock is req'd to allow key to turn/unlock the steering lock from the steering column practice doing the above each time you fit key to unlock steering and tuning ign on to start hope this helps

Sometimes the Police will use a "Slim-Jim" and help a Citizen. Or call a Locksmith especially if you have Road Service or Autoclub.
