Removing the Water Pump

Thread on type. Loosen fan clutch counter clockwise for removal. Requires 36mm wrench (or adjustable crescent wrench).

Michael is correct on replacing water pump but if you are mech. inclined it can be done by removing upper fan shroud and serp. belt only. leave fan on pump until removed. remove 4 15mill bolts and the whole assembly. apply gasket sealer to both sides of gasket and insert 2 upper bolts to keep gasket in place when reinstalling.I have a 1998 gmc and did this a couple days ago while installing injection spider.

Water pump on that should be no more then 2 hours labor if you are farming it out to a pro. Remove top half of fan shroud. 4 bolts. Remove Clutch fan. Remove serpeitne belt. Remove 4 bolts holding pump on to block. Reverse process. To install.

It is prob. a little late, looking at your posting date. But, it should be as easy as pulling the serpentine belt off, removing the fan and the the water pump should follow with the removal of a few bolts. After that I suggest you take a shop towel and stuff in the hole to absorb the fluid that will leak out slowly and put silicone on the around the edge of the new water pump before putting it on, creating a solid seal, it doesn't take much to get the results. Then just put it all back together.
I'm not sure which motor you have in your Jimmy, but it is basically the same with all of them. Hope this is helpful in the future to anyone.

drain the radiator coolant,remove air cleaner assy,remove the mass iarfow,remove the upper shruod,remove drive belt,remove fan and fan blade assy,remove coolant pump bolts and pulley,disconnect the coolant byoass hose and clamp,disconnect the radiator hose from coolant pump,remove the 4 coolant punp bolts coolant pump and the gasket,,revise at installation.

drain coolant, remove drivebelt, remove upper fan shroud, remove cooling fan and clutch assemblyremove water pump drive pulley mounting bolts, remove upper hose from the water pump, remove water pump mounting bolts, remove water pump from the engine, remove gasket, and make sure that all mating surface are clean and free of gasket materials or burrs

You will have to take the fan and fan clutch off to get to the water pump. It is best to go to oriellys and put a deposit on the fan removal tool it will be easier on you. Than there is only four bolt holding the water on.

there are four nuts that you must remove at the front of the pulley between the fan. remove fan, fan shroud,loosen accessory belts. remove water pump pulley and the pump bolts will be exposed. check belts for replacement while you have them loose. reverse procedure to install.

hi,first off you have to remove the acc. drive belts, ac,alt.,pwr str belt etc.but loosen up the 4 bolts that hold the fan to the water pump.then remove any brackets 4 bolts hold the water pump in place and remove water hoses before removing pump bolts. clean and replace gaskets and pump reinstall all parts and added coolant .also you may want to replace thermostat.

drain engine coolant.relieve belt tension .and remove the drive belt.remove upper fan shroud.remove fan or fan and clutch assembly.remove water pump pulley and coolant hoses from water pump.remove water pump bolts.then remove pump from engine.pay attention to bolts location because they are different lenghts.clean water pump gasket mounting surface dont scratch .or pump gasket wont seal and leak .apply sealant to water pump bolts.install water pump with new gasket.if gasket paper put a sealant on it.torque water pump bolts to 30 ft lbs.if you got a 2.2L engine torque water pump bolts to 18 ft lbs.install coolant hoses on pump .install water pump pulley.install fan and fan clutch assembly.install the drive belt .and the upper fan shroud.fill the radiator with coolant.then run engine to check for leaks.WARNING AS A SAFETY PRECAUTION REMOVE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE SO CAR WONT BE CRANK BY ACCIDENT. ALSOOOO DONT FORGET TO TURN OFF RADIO FIRST BEFORE DISCONNECTING BATTERY SO YOU WONT LOSE YOUR RADIO CODE.
