Panasonic DMR-E55 DVD Recorder plays does not record

Are you trying to record from a broadcast signal, or via one of the SCART inputs? The E55 has an analogue tuner. If the TV companies in your part of the world have switched to digital broadcasting, the E55 can ONLY be used to record via the SCART and other video inputs, the tuner won't receive anything

I can't power on my dvd recorder dmr-e55

No power light look for a fuse--power light comes on and then goes out look for either a jammed mechanism or a power supply problem.

Self checking

I have had a Panasonic DMR-E85 with this exact same problem you are describing. As I bought a Freeview Dual-tuner PVR I just bought a second-hand DMR-E55 as I liked the Panasonic interface. Two months down the line it is now exhibiting the exact same problems, except now as well as the continual self-check rebooting, it's also refusing to eject the disk. Booo. Time for me to buy a new DVD recorder again, and this time certainly not Panasonic... :(

The panasonic dmr e55 will burn a disc from my video camera and play on the dvd player but no other dvd player. and i read all the instructions step for step

Have you finalized the disk after recording? Are you using DVD-R disks? Also, I can replay my recorded DVRs on my portable DVD player, but not on a TV with a built-in DVD player. That one is just to finicky.

How do i finalize a disc

..issues with the DMR-E55 recorder:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/f106/problem-recording-panasonic-dmr-e55-130046/

..here is your manual:

http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support/DVD-Recorders/model.DMR-E55K

...and on page 33 of that manual they discuss how to do the finalizations.

From my experiences on a friend's DVD recorder,
you need to go 'step by step' and in exact order or the processor
in the machine may not see the correct labeling codes on your disk
at the time you finalize. The "problem issues" referenced in the first
link should help you keep from stumbling over an 'error prone' situation
and may/may-not apply, but IF it does please contact your original sales location with that information.

Panasonic dvd recorder wont record or play

It is also possible that you are trying to record using an already used -R or an unformatted RAM disk.

DVD recorder continually stuck on a loop trying to read disk.

Hi again

Well done!

I am so pleased to hear that you have restored the DMR E55 and for taking the trouble to let me know. It's always satisfying to achieve something like that and I guess you'll get even more pleasure from using it now than you did before. They are good machines and well worth the effort to keep them going.

Thanks again and kind regards

Will my non finalzied discs play on a panasonic ez 28 or ex 768

You will have no problem playing your non finalized discs on any of the Panasonic DMR range including the DMR EZ28 series. The DMR E55 can also easily be repaired if you can use a soldering iron and a little care. Please checkout my other postings for full repair details.
Cheers...
